We went to the Red Dragon recently based on a couple recommendations I had read on social media, since we are always on the lookout for a good Chinese restaurant. We decided to give them a try despite the mixed reviews that appear on Google. Unfortunately, there is really not much positive I can say about our experience. If they are busy, finding a parking spot in the small lot behind the restaurant can be challenging. The interior of the restaurant itself is quite shabby and in need of an update. The take out area is located in the back of the restaurant, so if they are busy (like they were the night we were there), you literally had take out customers standing in the dining room right next to the tables of customers who were dining in. On the plus side, the service was very good, but the food was some of the worst we've ever had at a Chinese restaurant. My wife ordered chicken and broccoli, which normally comes in the typical brown sauce. Hers came with some sort of white cream sauce and when she questioned the waiter he said "Oh, you wanted a brown sauce?" However, he did quickly take the dish back to the kitchen and within a few minutes returned with the entrée she wanted. You also pay extra for fried rice here (which is one of my pet peeves), but it was a large portion that two people could easily share. We both had leftovers that we took home, but the food was so bad we ended up throwing it away, which rarely happens.
I first found this place years ago as a delivery driver. The small dining room was always packed and there were almost always lines going out the door for pickup. So now, years later, I finally went myself to try it out (it's quite far from me). Awesome! Delicious! Hunan chicken was outstanding! Sechuan beef was top notch. I'll be making that drive more often now.
Ordered Orange Chicken and Fried rice for take-out on Saturday night (02/26/2022). Food was terrible! Threw all of it away...$24 wasted. Orange chicken was burnt and fried rice was soggy & mushy. First and last time eating from there!
I wanted to like this place since it’s close to me, but I got the sesame tofu and it was just a gooey block of congealed tofu pieces stuck together…tasted sweet too. Such a bummer. At any price, much less when it’s expensive like this.
Awful...very disappointing. It was crowded, so I had hopes it was good. It was not. Two entries were terrible, sauce was like they just poured hot water into carton. Mongolian Beef and Shrimp broc. Soup was good, but rest was disaster. Our first...AND LAST time. How it gets good reviews I've no idea.
Our normal Chinese take out was closed, so we opted for Red Dragon. We were encouraged by the part of town, and the crowd. We figured it would be really good, and maybe become our normal take out. We even over looked the fact that take out was not ready in 20, it took 45 minutes. Then we ate. Yuk. The two entrees were awful...Mongolian Beef and Shrimp broc. Sauces were water, like they just ran hot water into the take out carton. No flavor whatsoever. Not particularly fresh. Soup, in fairness, was good, but that was the only redeeming item. I've no idea why they get good reviews or had a crowd. We'll not be back.
Fantastic Chinese food spot in five points. Honestly it’s somewhat hidden away, but definitely worth finding.Go to is easily the general chicken. Always great, good flavor and still crispy while well sauced. The wonton and hot & sour soup are great in the winter. Best spring rolls in Raleigh.
The food was amazing and very authentic, There dumplings were the BEST I've ever had Yet. The service ( Mailin ) was also Amazing. She was very attentive and sweet. She made us and our tummy very happy.
The food has no flavor, we ordered the general chicken, hunan chicken and bbq spare ribs. All tasted the same NO FLAVOR! $38 worth of food in the trash! Would be better off going to a cheap Chinese strip mall restaurant.
Really good food and great staff that is ready to assist you. Love eating here. The Mei Fun is worth trying.
