The definition of a good meal is something that reminds you of what you've had that was good. The definition of a great meal, however, invokes something in you that you didn't know you would enjoy. Garland fits the latter greatness for me. Not at all surprised at the James Beard love here. This is the best meal I've had in Raleigh this calendar year. The trout and the cauliflower are both must-haves here. The peak experience, I would have to say, is the Masala kettle corn. In any case, you will not be disappointed with anything on the menu.
Garland was great! We appreciated all the vegan options and the service was amazing. We ordered everything vegan available and we ranked our favorites:1. Slaw Chaat - all the flavors and textures. Crunchy, spicy, chewy, sweet, savory. Delicious!2. Ginger Sauteed Carrots - the sauce was incredible. Spicy and savory which went well with the sweet ginger carrots.3. Vegetable Sambar - this was surprising but delicious. We weren't sure what to expect but the idli was a great base for the veggie and lentil gravy base. Great balance with the cucumbers offering a fresh bite. Really good!4. Braised Beet and Strawberry Salad - this was super fresh and almost reminded us of a dessert. I love beets so I loved the dish. Something had to be ranked last but this was still an 8/10.Looking forward to coming back.
Great ambiance, drinks, and food. The chaat slaw and soft shell crab were both fantastic. The bartender (didn’t catch her name) was so sweet and provided great service!
Great place for drinks and pan Asian food. I tried their chaat which was unique in taste and they sambhar with toasted idly. This misty days drink on left was superb.
My friend invited me to Garland Raleigh. It’s first time for both of us. Nice ambiance with interesting decor. The food is amazing, tasty and very flavorful. The menu is shot but they apparently change often. We had three small and one large plates included beet salad, lamb rolls, shrimp withe Brussel sprouts, and a whole trout. Every bite is amazing experience. The lemon tart with roasted strawberry brought a wonderful conclusion to our dinner. Price is a bit high but it’s worth it because there is a lot that goes into making these dishes. You can tell by its preparation and presentation, truly a work of art! A feast for the eyes and the palate.
We really enjoyed our anniversary dinner here. All of the dishes have such unique and vibrant flavors. We tried two of the desserts and they were both heavenly. The lemon tart was like eating sunshineWe can't wait to come back and try more.
Ate here last night. Check yelp review. Food and service were good. Portion size was ridiculously small. Advertised as “large plates” for sharing. Also, I thought I was walking into a duck blind….
the service and food were above average
Went for a date night. Attempted to go here 2 times before but didn’t work out. Third time was the charm.Cauliflower appetizer is amazing. Highly recommend this. The Lamb Briyani, might as well be called a lamb pot pie. Also very tasty. The fried trout, was just ok, a bit dry. I would try one of the other big plates.Overall a decent experience, would go back.
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Ever since COVID, though, it’s never been the same. It seems to be the strictest place in town when it comes to safe guards. Our first time we had to sit outside in the cold and order our food online (no being waited on). We didn’t come back for a long while after that. Tried again the other week and they require vaccination cards at the door, which is fine because we are vaxed, but still a bit extreme compared to restaurants in the area. That and they wouldn’t close the front doors to the restaurant—probably more safeguards—so it was cold inside. But we were really the most disappointed to see that the menu was quite limited. Some of our favorites weren’t there and there weren’t many meat options. We didn’t feel like their selection for the prices was worth it so we got up and left before eating.I just feel like they need to chill out a little bit. Like, I don’t need a reminder in my private bathroom stall to keep my mask on. That and focus on getting the menu back to what it once was.
