I tried Big Ed's for the first time. Big Eds has an open dining room with very high ceilings. It is much larger than it looks from the outside with country like decor. I ordered the 4 vegetable plate which included butter beans, sliced tomatoes, cucumber salad and cabbage. The butter beans were good, the cucumber salad and tomatoes great and the cabbage below average Comes with two biscuits, drink and dessert. The biscuits were very good and the dessert which comes in a small portion was pineapple cake which was tasty. All together a lot to eat. Service was prompt and friendly. The menu changes daily. I will be back to try some of their other menu items.

Fantastic southern style breakfast! We stopped in here for an early breakfast before the days adventures. I got to have some real southern treats - real country ham and cheese grits; my wife had the fried catfish and both were excellent. The service was extremely friendly and welcoming. I just wish we could find a breakfast like this back home!

Food was pretty good. Hot cakes are huge! Spicy sausage patty delicious. Service was great! Overall Nice diner to check out.

While visiting Raleigh, my son and I wanted lunch but not at a franchise. On impulse, we tried Big Ed’s. It’s modest in appearance, busy & very clean. The menu offered a wide variety of Southern country breakfast, lunch & dinner staples at reasonable prices. We were promptly seated & our order taken. The waiter was quite personable & suggeted a fried egg to top the burger my son ordered. I had salmon cakes, mashed potatoes with gravy & broccoli rice casserole. The food arrived surprisingly quickly, the portions were generous & the ingredients fresh. Best of all, everything was yummy & I’m notoriously picky. The only mild negatives were the acoustics which made conversation difficult & the absence of vanilla wafers in the banana pudding. We highly season our food so it was a little bland for us. I also wish they offered turnip greens in addition to collard greens. Overall, it tasted very close to homemade not just another franchise where everything tastes the same. My son is still talking about the delicious burger! We’re definitely planning a return visit.

Food was ok. I had corned beef hash with French toasts. When you get there .. if you see a line outside just line up there. I wish they put an instruction somewhere. I walked into the restaurant n ignored the people outside because I had no idea they were waiting in a line. N I wasn’t alone. There were so two more groups of people asking us about the line. Again I am not a fan of this system. And I hope they will change it to take the party size n name in the future.Well .. thank God it was a warm day, otherwise I really don’t see myself lining up in the cold.

The food was very good and the menu has some of my favorite country dishes, so I'll be back. Of course on a Sunday near closing, staff is super busy, and our waitress was pretty good. Also, for calibration I start everyone with 4 stars (that's doing your job), 5 is above and beyond (food, service, relative ambiance, etc). They did their job well. I would recommend and I'll go back.

What can I say but this place is great. The food is excellent, no complaints, juicy sausage, hot fluffy eggs, biscuits that melt in your mouth. I could go on for hours about all the good food, and like I said no complaints. What really impressed me is how dedicated the staff is. On 2/27/22, Ms. Denise, was very professional, she went out of her way to make sure my order was correct before I left. I'm from out of town and her service made me feel welcomed, Thanks Mrs. Denise!

This is a pretty good restaurant with good prices. I had a country ham biscuit with spiced apples and my daughter had the BLT. My biscuit was fine but when I saw my daughter's BLT, I wished I had gotten that. There was sooooo much bacon on that sandwich that I just stared at her while she happily ate it. Don't get me wrong, what I had was good but, damn, her sandwich.....I wish I had taken a photo of it so you could understand but she had already started to plow into it when it got to the table.

The food was very good! Pancake was huge and fried apples were good. & service made everything even better! Excuse photos we dug right in

This place was delicious if you love Southern food. And we had Kathy S. for a waitress and let me tell you she made the entire experience so pleasant she bragged on the place the food which made you so excited to get your food, it was so awesome that she knew all the history of the business and all about the cooking and recipes. Thank you Kathy :) we will be back for the Pancakes!
