We had tried their food truck a couple of years ago when they were parked at a brewery and really liked it. So we were excited to try their brick and mortar location. Huge disappointment! The staff wasn't very friendly and the prices were ridiculous! For 2 arepas and 2 aqua frescas we spent $25. Guasaca is exponentially cheaper and much more flavorful. The arepas lacked any real flavor and appeared to be devoid of spices. We were not fans and do not have any plans to go back.
The owner of the business is the one who took our order, and oh my gosh she was just lovely! So personable, passionate about her business, caring about us, she even introduced us to her mom! I love her personality and how she showed us her personal side; it wasn't about just getting the order/business, and sending us on her way. This level of care transcends into her passion for delicious food. I LOVE that they had two vegan options, both of which were delicious. They offer vegan cilantro sauce, too, which is so good! They have composting and recycling there as well. All of the staff was also very friendly. We live in Florida, so we can't be regulars :( but we have family in Durham, and when we come back, we will certainly visit again ! Higy recommend !
First time trying Arepa Culture. Delicious ? the arepas tasted homemade, and the fillings are delicious. I had the “ReinaPepiada” WOW, my husband had “La Pelua” delicious. My sweet plantains side was delicious too. Loved the atmosphere, nicely decorated. Will definitely recommend eating here.
What an incredible meal this was! As a newcomer to arepas I didn't know what to expect, but I was blown away. I had the La Tica and La Sureña with a Signature Cachapa and one of the best sodas I've ever had. As a lifelong resident of NC I have a strong connection with BBQ, and the pork in the Sureña rivals some of the better strictly-BBQ restaurants around! Everything was fresh and made to order, and the service was top notch; from the warm smiles greeting you to the helpful and passionate staff wearing them, the entire experience was wonderful. I'll be finding reasons to be in their area as often as I can from now on!
As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by the staff. Having never been here before, I immediately felt welcomed and comfortable as I tried Venezuelan food for the first time. The restaurant team was informed about their menu and delightfully professional as they helped me decide what to order. They kindly reminded me to try their AMAZING sauces and thanked me for my business. My food came out quick and was passed to me by an employee who had the most genuine smile on her face. I now crave arepas (especially the salmon one) and look forward to feeling the positive vibes of the restaurant each time I visit. I was also incredibly pleased by the cleanliness, health rating score of 100, and the tasteful decor. Well done.
Absolutely delicious and so very thoughtful in both the making of their food and their packaging. ❤️
Got the “El Beyond” arepa. It was delicious in that it was flavorful. It was a bit too salty for me though.. . The drinks were refreshing but also very sweet. If the salty and sweet were dialed down by a notch, it’d be perfect! Loved the cilantro sauce!
Had no idea what an "Arepa" was, but whatever it was, it was delicious! The baseball sized soft pillows filled full of meat, vegs and cheese marinated and cooked together. I'm glad I don't live closer because I'd need a payment plan! I can't wait to come back and try all the different flavors. Side note, this place is super clean. They also, at the time of the review had a 100 sanitation score.
Had two arepas for lunch and they were great! Nice modern restaurant
It is nice that all of the food is gluten-free. I did notice a barley drink in the case though. But to be honest, I was disappointed. I love Arepa's so maybe my expectations were too high. I went here for lunch with a friend a few days ago. The atmosphere is modern and cute, but the food and service were disappointing. The service was not bad, but the employees did not seem like they wanted to be there and were hard to understand (mumbling) when you asked questions/tried to order. And the Arepa's were disappointing. Being some of the first customers of the day I thought the arepas would've been fresher. They were not warm and didn't hold together. If the Arepas had just been warm they could've tasted a lot better, the rest of the salmon arepa was tasty and the cheese one would've been better if it wasn't like a solid block of cheese and was meltier. I will give it a second chance, but maybe check out the food truck next time.
