First time going. A friend in the area suggested it to us. All the food except for the macaroni was extremely good. Couldn’t get enough of the beans, peas and yams. The grilled chicken was juicy. Our server wasn’t the friendliest but the food made up for that. Tea was really good as well. And we picked up some old fashioned candy otw out. We will definitely be back, hopefully with a friendlier server. Check out lady was very nice.

Abele's is a step above diner food. Chopped steak tasted great -- very fresh and with a simple beef flavor. I had it 'western' style with sauteed onions & peppers and melted cheese but the flavor of the beef stood on it's own so next time I'll get it naked. The mushroom gravy on the side was also tasty. Jan's chicken fried steak was one of the best I've had with a nice black pepper flavor in it; admittedly that's not one of my favorites though. Service was excellent, prices were reasonable. Decorations were excessive but humorous. My one disappointment was the rest room. It looked like it had been clean for the start of the day but by the time I was there (5:30 pm) it was not clean which was a bit off putting. Anyway, I'll go back next time I'm through Morganton.

We ate here prior to going to an event at the CoMMA Performing Arts Center in town. To be honest we were a bit disappointed, It came with a great price for a sit down meal. But the meats we added to the buffet style salad bar and vegatable bar was just frozen store bought presentations. They were pretty below average. The items on the buffet were pretty good. However the overall meal was a pretty average 3 stars. The atmosphere was interesting. You could tell that they had been here for quite some time and that added to the appeal for us. 4 stars for the atmosphere. Our server was seasoned. You could tell that she had been doing her job for many years. She was very good even though she had quite a few tables. Solid 4 stars for service. It was a very good value. Almost cheap eats for a sit down restaurant. We would rate the value 4.5 stars. Cheap eats but the meat offering was not a great value. Overall we would give this place 4 stars. It was interesting place to stop for dinner. A little disappointed with the meats we had. Get the salad and veggie bar would be our advice.
Visited on a Saturday afternoon, was very busy, about a 20 minute wait. The hostess and our waitress were both very friendly. Myself and travel companion opted for the salad, fruit, hot vegetables bar + 1 meat. I love salad bars and this did not disappoint. The veggie bar had a lot of southern classics beans, greens, corn bread, Mac & cheese. Our meat choices were pork chops and chicken tenders. 2 pork chops were very tender. There were 5or 6 chicken tenders nicely seasoned and crispy. The meal was very good and well priced. Highly recommend. If I ever find myself in Morganton again I will definitely visit.

I had the breakfast buffet bar and it was delicious as usual. Plenty of food to choose from on the bar and it was hot and fresh. The customer service was great and the restaurant was clean. I will be back.
Very family oriented with home-style cooking and a large buffett bar, including soup, salad, fresh fruit, hot vegetable sides and a meat choice. Menu choices and table service was also available.The food was satisfying. The service was very good and the prices and value were unbeatable. There was a good size crowd for dinner, so they must be doing things right.
