We chose to sit outside during lunch, it was a nice afternoon and the outdoor seating was shaded from the sun. The mussels in the spicy red sauce were great, we really enjoyed the flavor of the dish. The chicken and rice soup was hearty and very tasty, I love a good soup! My only complaint (I'm trying to hold back because it's not really a complaint) was that my Bloody Mary was straight vodka with a splash of tomato. There were no bold flavors or garnishes, it was pure vodka and missed the mark for me.
Not usually one to think negatively about this place, but when it was towards the end of our meal, I ordered my FAVORITE desert to go. The waitress brought it in a paper bag, luckily I checked the bag before walking out the door and in it, was a completely different desert. My Father finds her and asks her about it. And, the waitress told him that they were out of what I wanted so she thought it was close enough. She hadn’t even asked if I wanted something else just assumed I’d be okay with a completely different desert. Which I would have taken the other desert, I just thought it would have been common Courtesy to ask? Other than that the service was nice. Food was good. And as constantly on top of refilling our drinks.
We had a party (all family) of 11 and a baby. We were sat in 2 booths side by side. Therefore, I don't feel we should've been charged the % tip automatically added on. We hadn't seen each other since Covid (over 2 yrs.) so I wasn't happy about that. The food was delicious. The server wasn't the best I've ever had. She didn't offer anyone a straw until I asked for them. I do not drink out of a cup anywhere unless I'm at home or somewhere that I know they haven't touched the rim of my cup/glass. One of us ordered a wrap with the slaw on the side and specifically told her that when she ordered it. It was served with it on the wrap and when she asked for it to be taken off, it was going to take 10 minutes to remove it or remake the wrap. She wasn't too nice about it either. I really wish I would have gotten her name! It did not take but about 5 minutes after she made a big deal out of it. She kept harping over, "if that's how you wanted it, you should've ordered it that way". It was! When we were all finally served, the food was good. In the future, my family will not meet there. We will go somewhere where we can all be sat together. That has been an issue there every time we've eaten there as a family. Overall, I wasn't real happy this time. Food, good. Service and server, terrible. You may want to get it to go and make sure you check your order to make sure everything is correct.
Came here for dinner with my boyfriend. Environment was casual and nice. Server was nice but service was a little slow. We ordered the salmon a la carte based on other reviews that we read. It was okay but not a huge serving size and not worth ordering again. Side vegetables were also small in size and just okay. Not a place we would make a point to come back to again.
We went right at closing. The staff got us in and seated quickly. We ordered wings that didn't come till we were about the leave but they tasted great the next day anyways so no waste. Overall is was great service and great food.
Backstreets was one of my favorite restaurants in Hickory. They have great food and they used to have great service. However… i’ve never had so much trouble trying to call a restaurant in my entire life. Do y’all just take the phone off the hook? This hasn’t only been an issue for me but multiple others I know. So after calling 20 times I decided to just go place my order in person and tell them they must not know their phone was off the hook and the hostess was incredibly rude. My food took almost an hour which i’m sure was due to the fact that she was irritated I mentioned that they weren’t busy at all and no call I made was answered. My food was cold. Not a good experience. This was one of the best local places to get a bite to eat, so hopefully management steps up and handles these situations.
Tremendously comfortable seating and very delicious food. Great service too!!
Usually has pretty good food and service, even with a long wait. Came for lunch on Superbowl Sunday though and to my surprise it wasn't very busy. Food was good but Kelly S. is probably one of the worst waitresses I've ever had. Ignored requests, grabbed the check and card without a word. Don't know when I'll be back.
My wife and I had lunch mid-afternoon on Tuesday, Feb, 8, 2022. Food was very good and waitress was very good. My issue was not the food, but the pricing. My wife had a fried chicken sandwich and fries, $9.95 and it was very good. I had a fried chicken lunch special. It too was good. Here's the issue, my lunch special was $20.95 and it came with mashed potatoes, country gravy, green beans and a salad. Sounds good so far. My special had the same size piece of chicken as my wife's sandwich. The salad was huge, should have been a side salad. So for twice the price, I got the same amount of food as in a sandwich. My fault was not asking what the cost of the "special fried chicken" would be. I think that it should have at least 2 pieces of chicken if not 3 for that price. I did talk with our waitress when I saw the price of $20.95 on our check. It's not her fault for an overpriced lunch. If we return to Backstreets, I will ask questions in advance.
Well I entered the door and a lady and another gentleman was standing waiting. Hostess finally comes up and tells the lady they are fixing her chicken. Tell the man that he was waiting on a table for 3. Then just walks off without even acknowledging that I was there. Never asked if I needed a table. Nothing. I walk in to the wait station where a waiter is on the computer and he ignores me. So I left. First time I had ever been to this place and was completely and totally ignored by not just the hostess but the wait staff as well. I will never return and I will tell my friends about this as well.
