Find was very good for NC style BBQ. All the sides had great flavor as well.
Some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet, serving up excellent whole hog BBQ, cooked the real way over wood coals. We hadn't been to Wilbur's in 10+ years until my daughter and I stopped on our way home from Emerald Isle last weekend. It was even better than I'd remembered -- at least as good as Sam Jones, Skylight Inn and Rodney Scott's. I had a pork sandwich with slaw, hush puppies and fried okra. Really enjoyed talking to the folks out front, and then Brittany gave us a great tour of the pits and introduced us to Jackie, the pitmaster.
We ordered the bones and pulled pork with Brunswick stew and spare ribs with potato salad. What came out was the exact same thing, spareribs. When we asked where the bones and pulled pork were our waiter didn't know, took us 2 people and almost 10 minutes for them to say they were out of the bones and pulled pork so they just gave us both spareribs but hadn't said anything or even asked what we wanted instead. But really those looked NOTHING like spareribs, they looked like bones! SMH. So I told them we didn't want two of the same things so I said just give me an order of pulled pork insteas which they did and it came with slaw and they took back one of the two....whatever those things were. Finally! As far as flavor...those bone thingys were tasty, though a bit dry. The potato salad wasn't bad but it didn't have a flavor. The Brunswick stew was OMG sooooo good. The pulled bbq was also very very tasty. We did not like the texture of the coleslaw which was light in flavor but also very watery. The best part of the meal where the hushpuppies they give you when you sit down. They were delicious by themselves and even more amazing with the chicken gravy. Wow! That chicken gravy was sooo good, we put it on the other food we had ordered. They even gave us more huspuppies and gravy. Yay!We came here because we saw a vlog from Mark Weins and so we took a 30 min detour from our trip to check the place out. I would say that the servers have no idea what they are doing and the food was okay. There were a few food items but as far as the overall meal, it was just okay.
Wilber’s BBQ is the GOAT (greatest of all time) for eastern NC BBQ and BBQ in general!!! Sauce goes crazy!! amazing service and all around great restaurant , we will be back every time we’re passing through!
If you want delicious North Carolina BBQ then you need to get over to Wilber's. They have awesome hush puppies and they serve them with gravy. Who does that!!! Wilber's does that's who & believe me when I say DELICIOUS!!! I had BBQ sandwich with slaw and it was out of this world! You would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't get out there.
I've just had Wilbur's BBQ plate for the first time, and I can say this is some of the best food I've ever tasted! The pulled pork is perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned perfectly. The hush puppies have a very nice crunch, and also taste amazing. The Cole slaw is very nice, and the green beans as well. Their banana pudding is decadent, I should have gotten two! Everything was ready very quickly, and very reasonably priced. You have got to go here soon!
Great history and enjoyed Easter lunch.
We live in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Our 1st time at Wilber's. Our CPA's recommendation. Everyone was professional, courteous and very friendly. They let us sample their chopped turkey and chopped bbq (their offer). They gave my wife one of those awesome cookies. We'll be back!!!
Stopped by to pick up on our way home. Disappointed. The barbecue was dry, coleslaw tasteless and hush puppies cold. Terrible.
I grew up going to Wilbers with my family on the way to the beach. We love the BBQ sandwich and hush puppies. We were devastated when it closed but we’re thrilled with the new ownership! The best part is that they deliver and it stays fresh thanks to excellent packaging. We love Wilbers!
