This place used to be good pre-2020.Last time I went I was served a bowl of sashimi. The fish was frozen. The sushi rice had way too much vinegar. I was not comped in any way when I brought this to management's attention. In fact, management gaslit me by telling me this is normal. No, it is not normal to be served frozen sashimi. For takeout, they'll tell you to be there in 15 minutes to pick up your order. But don't be surprised if you end up waiting 30-45 minutes once you get there for your order to be ready. The General Tso's chicken is hit or miss depending on the day. These days they're asking $21.95 for an 8 piece roll of sushi. Outrageous.Scroll further down on the reviews and you will find similar sentiments and experiences.
We honestly enjoyed this hot and tasty food. Everything we ordered was delicious from the egg rolls to the beef and broccoli to the chicken and all that goes with every meal. Great staff, so kind and nice. Great experience.
This is my go-to for Chinese takeout. I always order the shrimp egg rolls and one of my meals on repeat is the shrimp and broccoli. The Thai basil shrimp is the other. They are always fast and the folks who work there are always friendly. There's one lady who calls everybody sweetheart and seems genuinely glad to see people. They have had strong covid-19 protocols in place since the beginning, and they are closed on Mondays.
I've been here 4 maybe 5 times. The food is always good. But the service is what made it lose 4 stars. All my experiences have been online ordering & each time I get a time that my food will be ready & it never is.I'd be understanding if there were a 5-10 minute delay but every time I've had to wait an extra 20-30 minutes on top of the 20 it already takes.Tonight will be my last time coming here they couldn't even find my order and hadn't even started on it.I'd just suggest eliminating the online order feature until you cam keep up with it so the customer doesn't have to suffer and wait & be delayed.& I originally gave 2 stars but when she just brought me my food she tried to say I made a mistake on the website which is why it wasn't ready. What mistake did I make placing my order? It doesn't accept card payments so payment wasn't the issue. The only mistake I see is that their prices online don't match their menu prices. So that's an error on your part.Yeah this is the last time coming here.
My family and I have been going here 12+ years now. I'm guessing it's due to the pandemic but our usual server has not been seen for several months . And the food prices, especially the bogo sushi, has gone up tremendously. Not sure if I'd go again for the sushi considering there are other places closer by with better prices. But it's usually quiet in there which I appreciate.
Ordered sushi and was told it would be 15-20 minutes. Took a solid hour to get my food. Two of the four rolls were not what I ordered. The fish was tasteless. Also ordered pork egg rolls that had completely uncooked meat inside. Called to complain and was told none of that was possible and the restaurant is crazy busy everyday so if there were issues it wasn't their fault. I was given a free order of doughnuts for waiting so long. While it was a nice gesture I was thoroughly displeased with the meal. I've been a patron of Peony for many years and unfortunately I think this will be the last order I place there.
Probably my favorite Chinese place in Durham. The food is tasty, and the homemade egg rolls are delicious. Don't forget to ask for some of their house spicy mustard! The staff are very considerate and will help with recommendations if you want to try something different. This location does tons of takeout and I understand why... Don't hesitate, if your looking for great Chinese food in the area. Peony is where you need to head!!!
Pretty good food. Sushi is about as good as any other place in the area. On the record it's buy-one-get-one but now it's over $20 per special roll so basically you're just paying twice the price. Bento boxes are good (kids usually get them). Photo is lion king roll (top) and spider man roll (bottom).
4.5! The vegetable dishes here are perfectly seasoned and prepared. Crunchy tender broccoli, crisp tender snow peas and beans and perfectly cooked rice. Yum. Seaweed salad is delicious, not overly sweet. Service is prompt and attentive. Atmosphere is average, perfect for a casual dinner.
i’ve been a customer since they opened many years ago, most often take out solid, reliable and a very good variety of rolls. only downside is that they can be very busy. amazingly they have never messed up an orderhighly recommend
