I've been going to Orient Garden for 20 years, it was my favorite Chinese restaurant. Every new Chinese restaurant I have tried since I first visited here has been measured on a threshold set by Orient Garden.Sadly something has changed and I do not like it. During my last visit, I found out they were no longer selling soup. No soup?!?!? Their wonton soup was great. The soup along with the housemade duck sauce (they stopped offering it shortly after the start of the pandemic) and crispy noodles made for a very nice start to lunch or dinner. I've never eaten here without soup and now its no longer available. The meal was unbalanced without it.I ordered sesame chicken and general tsos during this visit. In the past I appreciated that these dishes were crispy but not covered in thick breading. You could taste and see meat. The dishes I recently received were more breading than meat. Some chunks were only breading. I tried to eat it but ended up throwing it away. There is too much that has changed for me to return anytime soon. Maybe if they bring back soup I'll try it again. Until then I'll go to Shanghai since they were my number 2 Chinese spot in Durham and they still serve lunch and housemade duck sauce.
Very yummy food. Some of it is spicy. Not a problem for me but just throwing it out there. Very friendly service. The Gen. Chicken really is that good. I just wish they still had soup as I am always trying to find the best hot and sour soup on planet earth.
There are quite a few options for Chinese food but this is the spot for me. General Tso’s chicken is really Good. Large servings. I always get two meals out of a dinner portion. Prices are super reasonable for quality of food.
I love chicken wings from Chinese restaurants. Orient Garden has phenomenal chicken wings that are fried in a unique batter, almost like a beer batter, with a serious crunch to them. The wings are also legit huggeee ?
I have been going to Orient Garden for several years, but more recently I've noticed a change in the taste of the food and the appearance. The egg roll has a strange taste, that I can't quite describe, and it's not a pleasant taste, and the roast pork fried rice, which you can't substitute for white rice, has big slices of pork, and what appears to be canned vegetables, and the General Tso chicken did not have any broccoli. I also was put on hold for a long time, when I called in my order. I get the impression that this restaurant is under different management. Sorry but I won't be back.
When I moved to Durham, I spent months trying to fill the sizable Chinese takeout hole on my go-to restaurants list. My search came to an end when we found Orient Garden. They have the best General Tso's Chicken in town with the perfect blend of savory, sweet, and spicy that I crave almost every week. Far from the sesame-chicken-without-the-sesame-seeds "General Tso's" that you'll find at many restaurants. This alone has put Orient Garden at the top of my list, but the service from the owner is always excellent, and though you may wait a few minutes outside to be served (in "these trying times"), the consistent quality of the food makes it always worth the wait.My GF wishes they offered Mushu Pork, but she loves the dumplings, soup, and egg rolls, so Orient Garden keeps us all satisfied.
This is our go-to restaurant for Chinese takeout. It's pricier than some of the other takeout Chinese in the area, but the quality is much better, and the portions are huge. The sesame and general tso chicken are awesome!
I really like Chinese food, and I regularly went to a very good place that is far from where I live, but it was worth the trip. There is a mall very close to my house and every time I passed by this Orient Garden restaurant I ALWAYS saw that it had people. The place at this time only offers take out service. Today when I was starving and not willing to drive so much to go to the other place, I decided to give this one a try. Wow! what a surprise! To start with, the prices are almost the same but with the difference that the quantity of food is greater. Chinese food is usually a bit greasy, but this turned out to be a lot less greasy. As it was not in my plans to go there, I did not order in advance and was afraid that the wait would be long. But not! only 12 min was enough. and another 5 min to drive and enjoy this rich and delicious food!
Great Asian place next to Harris Teeter. Food is great a flavorful and comes in reusable containers. This helps justify the higher prices. You also get a lot of food, easily enough for 2 meals. Staff is polite and professional, quick checkout. Do order ahead of time, this place gets busy, especially in the evenings.
The dining is closed so all orders are take-out. Expect to pay higher prices than pre-COVID prices. I ordered a large Hot and Sour soup missing pork and tufu which are common ingrediates for this dish. Taste was okay. An appetizer of 6 chicken wings were excellent. I ordered the House Lo Mein since they don't offer the House Chow Mein from previous times. The dish was skimpy on vegetables, chicken, beef, and small shrimp not medium size shrimp and predominate noodles. Overall, I give this meal 2 stars.
