We had visited Durham for the day. We started looking for places to eat and saw Luna. Very nice atmosphere and decor. We ordered the Arepas as our appetizer (highly recommended so to sample the various meats and their black beans). We also ordered the Carnitas (wood-fired rotisserie meats) with sides of their succotash and collards. The food was excellent as well as the service.
We enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant. For appetizer, we shared the Camote Chimichuri – which is sweet potatoes, black beans, avocado, sweet corn, and chimichurri. I had the “Polla a la brasa – Peruvian Roast” – which is a seasoned chicken breast which I thought was delicious. For sides I had the pan roasted succotash with smoked bacon and black beans/coconut rice which were both very tasty. My wife had the blackened pulled chicken, which was good, but she liked my chicken better. She liked the icy bacon collards but didn’t care for the pimento hominy mach and cheese. Our waiter was good and the atmosphere was lively; we will definitely return.
I wish I could say that my experience was positive but it wasn't. The food was great but the waiter seemed like he didn't like his job. He was more interested in busing tables than being approachable or pleasant. I've worked in the service industry and know that the customer's experience should be the priority. I am sorry that I probably won't return for another visit but it's true about first impressions.
Nice menu selection with typical South American food. Each of the three of us could find something to eat The chicken was overcooked you might as well get the already shredded chicken. Service was quick. We were able to eat outside which was good these days.
FANTASTIC food. Really amazed at the quality. The chicken, kale, and yuca fries were amazing. Also their drink menu is great and affordable. My waiter was also really nice. Highly recommend this place.Heads up - the empanadas have dairy.
Excellent food, bartender (Maro) made our experience exceptional! He was attentive, fun and made our special occasion one we will remember. We will definitely be back
Luna is a true gem! No matter what dish I try on the menu, or one of their nightly specials I am always extremely pleased. Consistently delicious. Friendly staff, great location downtown, cute for dates or just dining out. The collards are phenomenal. I always recommend them when someone is looking for dinner options. One of the best downtown Durham restaurants, hands down!
I LIVE for Peruvian food. This is definitely a fusion place of a few South American cultures. I live 3 blocks away and this is downtown Durham. The location being at the end of the block with outdoor seating, is great! I take everyone I know here. The food is fantastic and the beer selection is wonderful
Luna is an amazing local restaurant with great quality and great tasting food, and separates the menu so that if you have dietary restrictions it's really easy to order. Not to mention they have an amazing staff who recognize the regulars, but treat everyone who walks in the door like friends. I've also recently been impressed with their management, navigating the pandemic intelligently and safely for both patrons and employees.
One our very favorite restaurants in Durham. The service is always outstanding and the food is original and delicious. We always start with Arepas- YUM! and then have to make a difficult choice about whether to have their famous empanadas or one of the scrumptious wood-fired meats. A solid choice for a date night, dinner with friends, or take-out for the family. Love you, Luna!
