Wine is ALWAYS delicious. Service is impecccable. I broke a glass almost immediately after being served. The cleanup was quick and I didnt feel judged in the least! This is a definite go to for drinking in or taking out!
Great selection of wines, beers and cocktail mixers! Very friendly and helpful staff! Nice environment for indoor or outdoor hangouts!

The atmosphere is cool. Cute little outdoor space. Only issue is that it’s very noticeably overpriced. I cannot speak for the wine prices; only beer. But everything from a draft beer to the to-go beer is much more than other bars/stores serving the same exact product. I’ve only been there maybe 6 times but at least 3-4 of those either me or my friends had under poured beer and wine. It’s awkward in the moment to correct the bartender, so we just walk away. I try not to discourage friends who haven’t been that want to stop along the way, but I think I may have hit my limit on this place. :( It’s just kind-of a bummer because they have a prime spot on the Geer Street strip and we would stop here much more often if it weren’t for those recurring issues.I just wanted add that the owner was quick and responsive and I was able to reach out via email as well! Louella is truly a neighborhood establishment. They have a small and kind staff. After a few visits they will know you like an old friend. It’s a homey and warm environment with an incredible selection of wine, a very good selection of beers and a few fun options of spritz, sangria and sake.Their weekly free tastings are such a great way to learn about new varietals and regions of with wine world.Recently they added boxed cheese and charcuterie plates, which is literally a perfect date night addition!If you live in or are visiting Durham, Louella is a must!
My two best friends, my 89 year old mother, and I were in Durham this past weekend to house and dog sit for one of my friend’s nieces and her partner. One of the ways they showed us their spirit of generosity was to leave their Aunt Tam a gift card to LouElla. What an experience! We tasted a little wine, visited and laughed with the owner, and enjoyed a light snack. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we had white glove service from (forgive me if I have his name wrong), Sergio when he helped us choose our purchases . We had a fabulous time and came home with a variety of wines to try and to gift to others. All the while, we were learning a little from our guide. We cannot wait to come back to Durham, and revisit this sweet little wine shop, its knowledgeable staff, and of course, Aunt Tam’s family! Thanks, Emily and Ashley! I wish I had known about this place sooner! Super friendly staff and a selection with something for everyone. They also have orange wine by the glass and tinned fish for snacking ?
My only regret is not coming here sooner. Interesting, varied menu of “by the glass” wines. The selection feels crafted by wine people, for wine people— and yet it’s accessible to the more-casual enthusiast with zero snobbery in sight. I love that the bottle selection is heavy on $20ish picks, thoughtfully curated so that you could pretty much grab any bottle in the store and be confident that a) it’s reasonably priced and b) will be delicious. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and glad to chat, if you want to chat. I love LouElla. It’s the best wine shop in town and quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Durham.
