Nice place but they will ruin your food if you dont wear a mask. Didnt have a mask and they didnt provide one- they proceeded to not cook my sandwich and give me dirty looks the whole time
There are no kinder, more compassionate, professional, and capable team members any place in town. Teammates work synergistically and seamlessly together to deliver the best barista services in town. I love the fact that when all other venues removed their mask mandate, Joe Van Gogh retained the respect and regard they have for the more vulnerable people, and continue to wear their masks. And that’s just about the staffing. At some point a year or 2 ago, the company hired an extraordinary baker. Guglhupf aside, Joe Van Gogh offers an extraordinary selection of both savory and sweet treats. Their morning vegan muffin is to die for. They make many of their own coffee flavors and have a wonderful chai
Good prices, creative drinks and frequent drink specials. It is a small location so small tables make sense. The internet is quick and easy. They have very delicious fresh baked goods and breakfast sandwiches from local bakeries and their own kitchens. They also offer plenty of variety of alternatives to plain drip coffee and espresso. Their beans in both quality and variety are some of the absolute best. My favorite place to go to work in Durham!
Nice outside patio on broad street. The road is a little too busy to be totally at ease. There are no tables inside and no outlets outside so i cannot recommend this as a place to work. They roast their own beans and coffee is quite good.a large selection of both pastries and sandwiches i think. I ordered a savory tart for 2.75 and it was absolutely delicious. They make all their pastries which is a huge plus
The service was terrible. I came in on a Friday morning and had to wait 15 minutes for an espresso drink. My cups seemed to get pushed back in the line. There were three people in the shop, but only one was working - he seemed to work as fast as possible on the espresso machine, while the two other employees didn’t help at all.Extremely inefficient.I had to chug the coffee and run back home to not be late for work. Not a great start into the workday. Asking for a tip ahead of service given this terrible service is pretty brazen. The coffee is ok, but there are better options with much better service. To note they also don’t take personal cups- which most other coffee shops do now.I had planned to come here regularly for morning coffee and pick up beans while I’m there, but I won’t come back. Don’t recommend to get your coffee from here if you don’t have 15-20 minutes to wait.
The espresso is ok, kind of one dimensional, but the paper cup could be a contributing factor. The cold brew is fantastic. Not sure what to think of beans. I have a bag sitting on my counter, no roasted on date, just a best by date (which is months out), I should have paid attention. Coffee is best a week after roasting, it loses flavor the longer it sits. Fingers crossed they roasted the beans last Thursday.Edit: the roaster got back to me so I increased it from 3 to 4 stars. Best by date is 90 days from roast date. My first attempt using their brand wasn't bad... Still need to dial in temp and grind size to get the bright notes I desire in a shot of espresso. Good chocolate hints and not over roasted. The team that works here is great, and the location is lovely. Definitely like their patio seating.
Very nice atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and coffee is imported and great. The price is fair when compared to other coffee shops. If you like a nice quiet environment with free wifi then Jo Van Gogh is the place.

Cold brew a bit too diluted for my taste but they are a pretty great joint
Interesting Flavors! Awesome customer service!
