What a gem in Durham! Get the smash burger... you won't regret it. Funky vibes, great drinks, fun staff, intimate setting. Cool little downstairs bar to hang out in while you wait for your table. I'd also recommend the mac n cheese!
Grabbed dinner with a friend we ordered fried oysters as an appetizer and we both ordered burgers with fries! The oysters were absolutely delish... they could easily rival ANY seafood place in Durham! The burger was fresh, juicy and tasty, while the fries were crisp and hot! Excellent meal!!
Cocktails made my wife very happy. I was fascinated by the Grind the two chefs had. Cooking, plating, and washing dishes as a two man crew. Hustling harder than anybody else does in these parts. Give those guys a raiseHad dinner there this week. Food was excellent

Love the vibe! Went with a friend for my birthday and the staff was very attentive and help make the night special! Food was amazing and even had a slice of cake with a sparkler candle! Must try in downtown Durham!
We had amazing food and drinks here last night. The cajun shrimp was fantastic. The best part for me was my shirley temple- as a non-drinker, i’m used to my ST coming in a big old plastic pepsi cup. This looked like a classy adult drink and it was DELICIOUS. Set the tone for a great night! Thank you Bar Virgile for making the sober community feel like adults! ????????
Struggled between 3 and 4 stars on this one. The atmosphere and the staff were both great. The inside reminded us of some of our favorite places in France. Really charming. We were a group of four and had several cocktails, appetizers, mains, and dessert. The food was a bit disappointing overall, though. Everything was just kind of ok. At a place like that, you really want better than “fine”. Maybe it was just a busy Saturday night and the kitchen wasn’t at their best. I hope so.
I was here a few weeks ago on a business trip and I can't stop telling people about it. My mixologist friend from Chicago asked me, "have you been to Bar Virgile?" because even he knew how amazing the place was. Their food is outstanding, the cocktails are seriously some of the best I've had, and their staff is incredibly helpful and kind. 10/10 would recommend.
Drinks were great, and the food was okay. The only reason for the two stars was the manager seemed to have gone on a very loud anti-mask rant and told a bartender to take their mask off. My issue with this was it felt incredibly inappropriate for the setting, and I should not have heard his entire rant word for word while I was across the bar. It was really off putting and uncomfortable and I will not be returning.
Nice place to hang out for couple of drinks. They made “The last word” for me which was not listed in menu. I was impressed that they had all ingredients and recipe to make it so perfect.
