My wife and I went here for our weekly date night. We always love checking out tapas places and Degenerate did not disappoint. The tapas here are not your ordinary tapas. They are MASSIVE. We order 5 tapas and it was basically 3 meals. My personal favorite were the fried green tomato slides. We didn't order any drinks on this occasion but they had a nice selection of cocktails on the menu. The service was really good and the staff was really professional. Degenerate is a tucked away little gem off the main road in NODA, I would recommend this place anyway looking for a place with a good vibe and great food.
Food is good. We ordered tortilla soup which was amazing and a cheese platter which was fine too.Service and ambiance is good.however I found the restaurant little pricey for the quantity served..
American “tapas” : pulled pork sliders with fried green tomatoes, shrimp tacos, crispy chicken wings, and pirogies. House cocktails. Flowery and sweet, but not bad. We saw some dogs on the patio, so very dog friendly.
We had 2 families, so 9 people total. The hostess was quite accommodating and pushed a few tables together for us to sit. Good thing we were there early for dinner. I believe everyone enjoyed the wide variety of foods ordered. My chicken sandwich was very good with Korean spicy red sauce and cole slaw. My wife ordered lemon peach pie for a sharing dessert. Very unique served in a mason jar, tart, saltines, real whipped cream. Good for all. One miss for me I would have enjoyed a beer but the selection seemed quite odd, not my taste.
The name is fitting. One of the worst dinning experience of my life. The cocktail taste like straight the vinegar, the service was terrible, and with only 5 tables it took 45 min to get food. The worst part was clearly the server who completely ignored us unless my wife flagged them down. Not saying race was an issue but we were the only POCs in the place. I will never come back and recommend you never step foot in there.
I have only been here once but it was a good experience. It was a Friday night and the crowd was steady but seating was not an issue. The tables were nicely spread out, too often places try to cram tables together so this was nice. The menu caters to more of a shareable style, a handful of sandwiches and deserts outside of shareables. I ordered the grilled cheese, seems basic but the cheese is amazing, several kinds in there and done perfectly. A little portion of tomato soup to dip, so good. Tasted like a homemade sun dried tomato mix. Yum.
Great brunch, great atmosphere & great service. Justin was very friendly & attentive. The eggs were cooked to order, the grits were creamy, & the bacon was crisp. I was very pleased. Not sure about the cocktails, but great choices available for wine & drafts. Also, Wu-Tang instrumentals will now be part of my self-care playlist thanks to The Degenerate! I'll definitely be back!
In 7 years of Charlotte food, the Caribbean curried lamb tacos was the best dish I've ever had. Really, no dish is bad. Tip of the hat to chef Dan. Outstanding atmosphere too! Highly recommend.
The food is amazing. The tapas style makes sharing and trying all their menu items very possible. Everything is super flavorful and the perfect size. The fried green tomato sliders are by far my favorite thing on the menu. They are a perfect combination of crunchy and flavorful without being too overwhelming plus the size is just right.I wasn't impressed with the cocktails selection. The fishbone is better as a mocktail. The rotating draft selection was better and they offered drink specials on a Friday which isn't common so points there! The overall ambiance of the restaurant is pretty low-key. It's one open room with TVs on the wall and dim lighting so definitely a chill place to hang out with friends or a relaxed date night with some top notch food. It is definitely a great place to bring a self-named foodie. But not high on the list for a romantic night out.
This is one of my favorite spots. The food is good. The drinks are good. It's laid back and spread out. The staff has always been super friendly and kind. Would recommend if you want a low-key night out.
