After trying Rusty’s for lunch several times (pre-pandemic), our family decided to make a dinner visit. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean, but I agree with a recent reviewer that the food simply doesn’t justify the cost. Our family of 4 spent over $50 on a very lackluster dinner. Of note: (1) The large in-store menus don’t reflect pricing, which should have been a red flag; (2) Entrees do not include sides nor drinks, making everything a la carte; (3) The kids’ menu leaves a lot to be desired, leaving us to order two overpriced cold deli sandwiches (one of which was served with shredded cheddar rather than sliced…?). Though my husband and I will consider returning for lunch, the value proposition simply isn’t there for a family dinner. For $50+, there are far better options available in South Charlotte.
I've been here about 50-100 times since 2004 and have always enjoyed my lunch. I've tried a few things there, but 90% of the time I order a cheeseburger and fries, then go home and take a nap. It's always delicious. I've also heard their chick salad, cheesesteaks and turkey reubens are really good. I've had the brat, which was good, but messy. Had the grilled chicken caesar wrap several times. My kids like their grilled cheese. I've never gone there with someone that didn't like the place, so I think any bad reviews on here says more about the customer - LOLZ!
I've enjoyed and recommended Rusty's for decades. When ownership changed in the fall of 2021, regular customers might have been concerned that changes might happen. The menu is the same, and several employees stayed with the new management. The noticeable changes were long overdue, and welcome.1. There is an integrated ordering, chef preparation screen and payment system in place, including tap-to-pay. No more having to tell the order-taker at the front desk what I want, watching the order being written on paper and handed to the chef, then having to repeat it to the cashier, who used to have to enter the same information at checkout.2. The same pleasant atmosphere prevails, including the mostly young employee base and the old National Geographic magazines on the shelf. The new management is not obtrusive, and I don't think that I've even seen the new owner.4. The work area has received a big lighting upgrade. ?5. The piped-in music seems to be chosen by the youngish staff. I miss the oldies that I used to hear, but that had started changing about three years ago.6. The decor hasn't changed noticeably.7. Like most restaurants, some new employees have been brought on. But this is not a big problem. If you have been away for a while, Rusty's is calling you to come back home.
Good place…DO NOT CALL AND PREORDER as you literally wait in a long line when you get there regardless. Good place for a lunch meet to sit outside but crowded indoors.
Quality/Quantity of food is sub par for the price. I would still support a small business like this any day over a chain. I know times are tough in Bidens America, but value is important. Don't forget that! will eat here again once more down the road to give it a more well-rounded review
I've been coming here for over 20 years. Best deal and fries in Charlotte
Best Philly steak around And the IBC Root beer Makes it even better A++!!!
Food is always fresh and so good!!! Best French dip I've had in charlotte!!! The owner is super nice too!
Food is great. Not one employee is wearing a mask. Literally. Not one
(I’m writing from my fiancé’s account). The owner is incredibly rude and nasty !!!! I been eating chicken salad sandwiches from here for a very long time. Every single time I order it’s made different. Sometimes with cheese, sometimes with tomato’s ect. Never once was there ever almonds in it. Matter fact I called before I ever ordered asking if there is any nuts in the facility as I am highly allergic. They insisted there is NONE!!! So why there was now almonds in my sand which was weird. I called them and told them that it’s always made differently and this tune had almonds. The owner started getting very very nasty telling me to not eat there anymore and there was always almonds. Again I asked a week prior if there is every cross contamination to nuts and proceeded to order this same sandwich per usual. He hung up on me. I called back and they said the owner left. I asked to speck to anyone in charge as I was just hung up on. They said there is no one, the owner grabbed the phone from them at that moment and said he doesn’t care and there is nothing I can tell him about his food. I just now went in again to just order something else and he wouldn’t let me order and called the cops on me to leave. Not one person was wearing gloves while handling food or wearing mask. So I’m glad I won’t be going back now because that is gross. DISGUSTING COSTUMER SERVICE !!!
