Washington DC is known for Ethiopian/Eritrean food in the US, but I have to say this is far better than any restaurant there and the service is exceptional. I read the negative reviews here and notice that the complaints are about how long it takes them to serve you. 15/20 minutes is not long, especially when the owner is the only one cooking and serving. You don’t give a Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant a 1 star because they didn’t give you silverware since the food is eaten with injera as the “silverware”. You guys who are giving 1 star probably do not realize the owner, who is not from this country, came here to achieve the “American Dream” by making enough to support his family with his business. I read another post how service must be only good from people from their homeland. I’m not from Ethiopia, or Eritrea. Nor do I know how to speak Amharic. They have never served me differently in any discriminatory way.
Just split the number 15 combo and started with the lentil sambusas. Two big, hungry guys, we almost finished everything. So much variety, so much flavor, love the family run vibe. Also seems to be a local hangout for some of the Ethiopian community. So happy to live right down the road from this diamond in the rough.
I walked in, and after five minutes standing there and I was the only customer at the time, and no one offer any assistance for me to purchase a meal, and I just turned around and walked out. I will not ever try to patronize there again.
We arrived at 11am openingGreat experience- food was deliciousMy 1st visit - so they eat everything in that photo with the flat bread (looks like a sponge)curry chicken & lamb (both are excellent!cabbage, collard greens, beets, lettuce/tomatoe, stew beef, spicy ?? I can't remember the other items. You receive enough for your tablethey also do provide utensils as I struggled to grab my food with the flat bread. Also I know its not bread it is very light & good. You DON'T FEEL FULL BUT SATISFIEDGreat first experience ??
I got the vegetarian platter... The green beans were the best I've ever had in my whole entire life! It would be worth it for family functions, to go there to get a huge quantity to feed everyone. Lots of things incorporated into them!
Poor customer service, entered with a party of 3, and we were barely greeted. Left after having to wait for over 15 minutes.
Nice people but I have not found an Charlotte Ethiopia restaurant as good as those in Atlanta
This was mine and my boyfriend’s first time at this location and I was excited to try the food since I’ve had Eritrean food before at other restaurants. The staff was not very friendly and passive aggressive. I thought the food was delicious but the lentils could have used more salt. After we were done eating here, we both noticed that our stomach was feeling sour. The feeling got progressively worse and now I come to find out it was food poisoning. I’m never coming back to this place again.
Friendly staff, authentic Habesha cuisine and great location. Free parking and lots of it. If you find yourself having to ask for silverware it’s because the true Eritrean food experience is to eat with your clean hands. If you’re trying authentic food like this one, be sure to be educated/humble enough to be educated of the centuries old tradition.
