It was great food was amazing and atmosphere was the best

great service and great food

I walked past Mert’s not realizing it was there having popcorn on my mind. Afterward, I walked back past, only to see others crowding the walkway and then the AROMA smacked me right on time as I was eyeballing dining venues for a meal prior to my Queen City departure. Man I read the menu all while I could smell the spices and herbs permeating the air at Mert’s There was soooo much to choose from, don’t get me wrong though. The menu had a focus on Gullah, Southern flavor, with a few comfort foods infused. I choose salmon cakes, mac n cheese, and collards. When I realized the collards WERE SERVED WITH chopped tomatoes and onions, I was sold!! I don’t know which was more fluffy the salmon cakes or cornbread (drooling). Did I say cornbread or light airy cupcake, just go try it for yourself. Needless to say, it was more than I could enjoy in one sitting. So, I ate at noon and 8 pm. Mert’s is a go to from now own when I visit the Queen City. GET THERE!!

If you're looking for some good soul food in the Uptown area, then this is it! The food was absolutely deliciously. And the cornbread was warm and sweet. You can't go wrong with whatever you order. It has an old dinner vibe, so come as you are.I gave it four stars because they were under staffed when we went recently. The one server working was doing her best, but you can only do so much, when you're the only one running tables.

For most part food was good. I had the sampler appetizer. The soul roll was good. It had collards, black eye peas and some other ingredients in a fried roll. Crisp yet moist. The flavoring was good. The salmon cake was mushy, too soft for my taste. Chicken not enough spice. The waiter Mr. Dollar was a very good and friendly waiter, knowledgeable about the menu. Price kind of average. Was out of red velvet cake . This was early in the day on a Saturday.

I’ve been here twice already and I like it a lot!! Southern comfort food for real! Love the cornbread, mac and cheese and their fried chicken is just so good! I always get it and it’s just one of the best fried chicken I’ve had. Highly recommend this place and service is always nice, quick and efficient!

Delicious food! Great service! Friendly server! Didn't need to add no salt or pepper to anything, greens didn't need vinegar. Awesome! Potato salad had a bit too much mustard to my liking but still delicious!

With all the other really good restaurants in this area that have closed down due to the pandemic it's good to see that Mert's has survived. It's not surprising though because their food is really good and it is very well seasoned. Huge variety.

Ok, so it took me 30 days to finally get this one done because I wanted to be fair and not just blunt. Overall I didn't really like it but it's ok. Try a few dishes and see what's your favorite. Reason behind 3 stars is this was on Triple D but didn't live up to the hype. Plus I was told to get the fried chicken as this is what Merts is known for. Got the fried chicken, didn't like it. There was no taste there at all. Seems like the cook forgot to season it.. im not sure. However the chicken breast was juicy and not dry so that's a plus. Beef ribs had too much vinegar to it. All I tasted was vinegar and couldn't really appreciate the dish for what it was. If you're into vinegar sauces, try the ribs. My wife had the shrimp poboy. Same deal for her. Not exactly satisfying. Now my daughter had the pork chops. I tasted a bite and yes baby!! Those were good. Season to perfection, tender and super juicy. I should have gotten that. Another thing that was delicious was the corn bread. OMG. We ordered 2 more of those to go. I've never had corn bread that damn good. Sorry mama!! ?. Moist, soft, sweet, hot and steamy with a little crisp to it. Corn bread and pork chops should be their marketing dish. Just saying, if you're known for fried chicken and I try your fried chicken and it's mediocre at best, I'm going to be disappointed. So there's the 3 star review. If you go, do try their corn bread and pork chops. You will not regret it.
