Understaffed like most places and honestly I expect that everywhere these days however the waitress said I had to sit at the bar "cause I'm only one here, have too many people before you, and you are only one person". Ate at the bar where I constantly had to ask for water refilled to a tiny cup, out of burgers so ask for a grilled chicken breast (not on menu) they "forgot" to make so it took 30 minutes to finally get the most driest, cold!, horrible chicken I've ever had. 2 stars over 1 for the bartender who at least recognized the time it took and removed from my bill.
We had a staycation at Canopy this weekend and made reservations at the restaurant for a date night. Katie was the only server. She was in charge of serving every single table! Her service was great considering she had very little help! The atmosphere was nice, a bit dark but nice. I ordered the short ribs and my husband had the wagyu burger. They were both good! The only concern I had was after we dined i happened to notice the 90 sanitation score....which made sense because I had to scrub down our silverware before eating.
Katie was an amazing server. Hands down she was polite, attentive, and professional and deserves 5 stars. The food was decently priced, but aside from the apps, just okay. The atmosphere for the most part was very pleasant. Lighting could have been a tad warmer- it was dark and a slight aura of grey because of the tinted windows- which made it a little too dark. The bone marrow was delish and probably the highlight of my experience with the bacon jam. Cocktails tasted pretty good. The cranberry gingerbread one was delightful. I ordered the duck and it was served medium which wasn't an issue. The issue was that it definitely was a little tougher in texture (was wondering if it was frozen and reheated). Husband ordered the butcher's choice, ended up being a flank steak. We would have preferred strip or something like a filet. The food quality was good. Clean atmosphere. Comfortable seating. Extremely kind and attentive staff.
My partner and I went for valentines day and we sort of left with mixed feelings. On one hand, the food I *could* eat was good. Cocktails were also good. But for me, the issue was the limited menu. We made our reservation weeks in advance, based on their online menu. At the last minute they put out a valentines menu, which of course you don't see unless you're following on social media. But of course even if you saw it, it was posted a week before valentines and therefore too late to get a reservation anywhere in Charlotte. I only learned about the new menu a few hours before our Reservation because I visited their social media page and saw it. I was hoping their regular menu would still be available but it wasn't. I have a lot of food sensitivities for health reasons and the server told us that if we didn't like it then we could leave because they arent serving anything from their regular menu. Which...okay fair. But it's too late to go anywhere else. The menu had two options for each course and the entire 2nd course was inedible to me because of food sensitivities. But she said no substitutions. So we basically paid for this multi course meal that were weren't anticipating having, and I couldn't eat an entire course of it. The server also rang up the wrong drink for my partner which he then had to drink because the server made us feel guilty about it. And his duck had multiple chunks of inedible fat. Again, the food we did have was mostly good. Drinks were good. But the last minute menu change and the limiting options on it was really a let down. We were looking at three other places to go for dinner on that night, all of which HAD their valentines menu up a month in advance. We ultimately choose Fine & Fettle based on the reviews in combo with the menu and drink options online. So having a last minute change when it's already too late to go somewhere else was really disheartening. And I know for a fact we weren't the only ones because the couple sitting next to us said the same thing, that they made a reservation before the new "special" menu came out and they ended up leaving altogether. She flat out said she'd rather go nowhere than waste their money on something they weren't wanting. And I wish my partner and I would've done the same because ultimately it was $200 for a meal I didn't want and an entire course I couldn't eat, off of a VERY limiting menu. SO. I'm not really sure if we would go back again.
So glad we adventured out to this new spot. Excellent food and atmosphere. There is a wonderful selection of small plates that are beautifully presented and delicious. The Brussels are amazing. Crab soup, pasta, salad, octopus,. The gluten free selections are something that I always look for and we’re very impressed with them. Simply delicious food with great wine, cocktails and great service
Lovely in all ways! The atmosphere is "cool upscale vibe." The menu is inventive....and the staff is attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The cocktail list is fabulous and creative! We ordered the Wagyu beef burger and the brussels sprouts---delish. The truffle fries are a decadent treat...hand cut and the portion is HUGE! Katie, our server, was fabulous--she anticipated what we needed before we realized anything. She also made menu suggestions and kept our table cleared so we could enjoy the current courses comfortably.
Very nice atmosphere! Food was very good and I loved the meringue tart, it was quite the treat. For room service, it was elevated. I wish they had more seamless ordering for hotel guests.
We stayed at the Canopy and ate here out of convenience since it's their "lobby" restaurant. We both ordered the sweet potato pancakes with Chantilly cream for breakfast but they only had one serving of them, so we switched one of our orders to the Belgian waffle which was supposed to come with lemon ricotta and a berry compote. When the server brought out the dishes, the Chantilly cream and ricotta cheese was missing because they said they were out of the ricotta. They didn't tell us this before serving it, otherwise we probably would have ordered something else again. It's like ordering a cheese burger and then they just bring out a regular burger because they are out of cheese. They should have mentioned that.Thinking it might have been a fluke since we were there at the tail end of breakfast, we returned for dinner at a reasonable 7 pm. The server however told us that that were out of Peaches & Honey appetizer, all burgers, all pizzas, all wings, etc. They told us the frozen pizza dough would be defrosted in ten minutes if we wanted to wait, though, so we did. My wife ended up ordering a pizza (which actually came out delicious) and a salad, and I ordered the Butcher's Cut steak (a New York strip). For some strange reason our pizza and steak came out ten minutes before the salad. Unfortunately my steak was overdone (requested medium rare, came out medium well) and everything on the plate (including the potatoes and greens) was way too salty.Service is slow despite there being just two or three tables here from 7 PM until now as I write this at 8:30 PM waiting for my steak recook. I can't say I would recommend this place.Edit: recooked steak came out and was actually delicious, cooked properly and salted appropriately.Second edit: tried their lattes on the day of our departure a and they were cold and watery. We will not be back.
As good as advertised.Sadly, no biscuits and gravy on the menu. But the grits bowl more than made up for it. Golden milk latte was excellent too, not too sweet. My son reports the waffles we're great with real whipped cream and maple syrup.
The good. The food was very good. It met all expectations. The bad. Ridiculously long wait time for food. We were nearly the only people in the restaurant and it took 45 minutes to bring out our entree from the time we ordered. Dessert also took a long time. I can see why the restaurant was empty. We’ll never go back.
