Nice decor, but pulled pork was just OK. Sauces were really good, but prices were quite high for what you get. Baked beans were well received by all. Cornbread was old-school style rather than the more trendy sweet and fluffy stuff.Peach cobbler was really bad... seemed to be a recipe designed by someone who has never had a real peach cobbler. So not just badly done this one time, but systemically bad.The staff was exceptionally nice on our visit.Overall, it was just OK. For the money, I would go elsewhere for my barbecue... it isn't like excellent barbecue joints are in short supply in North Carolina.
First time to City BBQ and they sensed it. Everyone greeted us with smiles and handed us a platter of their meats to try. Now I really didn't know what to order as ALL the meats were awesome. Went with the brisket and pork platter with a side of mac and cheese. Best I've had in a long time, will definitely be back again.
First time eating City Barbecue and I must say the leg/thigh was full of flavor. The mac and cheese could use some more noodles but had plenty flavor it was good. I am looking forward to another visit
We had such a good takeout experience with City BBQ on Galleria Blvd. tonight. We are in the midst of a move and have been forced to eat takeout much more than we normally would until our new kitchen is set up and all the boxes unpacked. Our food was packaged effectively (no spills), HOT, and yummy. We got Brisket sandwiches on Texas Toast, and the brisket was tender and moist. The baked beans were tasty, too. We liked the coleslaw - just the right amount of vinegar to mayo. Lastly, the hushpuppies were delightful...crispy on the outside and slightly sweet on the inside. We are happy to know there is such a delicious food option close to our new home!
The brisket and pulled pork are delicious, as is the corn pudding and peach cobbler. The Turkey taco and Brunswick stew did not taste good at all. This place is very pricey, not so sure I’ll go back. The workers are great!!
Probably one of the worst barbecue places I have ever eaten in Charlotte. My barbecue was cold and they only gave me one carton of barbeque sauce. When I went to the counter to ask for additional sauce BBQ sauce the girl totally ignored me I had to ask a second employee for the barbeque sauce. The only good thing I enjoyed was the hot french fries and even some of them were soggy. For the price I expected better food and service.
I had the cowbell sandwich, collard greens, & corn pudding for lunch on Monday, January 24th. City had sent me a coupon for my birthday I believe for $5 off.Though I placed my order to go, the young lady assisting me African American) was pleasant. We joked about me working from home & not being in a hurry to get back to work. I forget to take a picture of the corn pudding, but it was definitely good.
This place has amazing reviews so I just got incredibly unlucky. One of the worst meals I’ve had. Got two sandwiches - the Cowbell and the Hot Fried Chicken. The brisket was the driest and toughest I’ve ever had. No smoke flavor. The rest of the cowbell sandwich was ok. And maybe it’s my fault for ordering the fried chicken sandwich at a BBQ place but I figured surely they could deep fry a piece of chicken. Well they must have deep fried this one hours before I got there. It was not warm. I couldn’t eat about 1/3 of it as it was dry and hard and tough. Disgusting. The only positives were the sides - corn pudding, green beans (way too salty but flavorful) and baked beans.I don’t think I’ll be coming back over here. Drove nearly 7 miles to try it and took the sandwiches home (and I ate the chicken in the car so it wasn’t like it was hot or even warm when they gave it to me. Had I eaten there I would have taken it back and gotten my money back right away.
Good bbq. They have a decent beef brisket and ribs. Have a good number of sauces to choose from as well. Almost always get the ribs and brisket and my son like the pulled pork and ribs. Definitely worth stopping by and grabbing something for dinner or lunch.
Friendly service, and good food.We stopped in around 4pm on New Years Eve to order food to-go, and it looked like they were somewhat short-staffed but also had a lot of curbside pickup orders they were preparing. (In fact they were even out of a couple menu items.) So it took a little while for us to get our food, which was just a meat sampler and two sides. There were a couple other people before and after us waiting for their take-out orders too, and they probably could have prioritized the in-store orders over the ones for pickup. All said and done I think we waited about 10 minutes for our small order.I do like that they all whether or not you need any napkins or plastic ware, to cut down on waste, and they always ask if you want any sauces. It's good barbecue, and good sides. And it's super closeby for us, so that's nice.
