The only reason I went with two stars is because of the friendly staff. We ordered two Buffalo chicken sandwiches and a regular with pimento cheese. One regular fry and a sweet potato fry. We tried giving them our rewards phone number and they couldn’t pull us up so we weren’t credited for the visit. The cashier said this usually happens and they have trouble pulling up rewards accounts. When we got our food, the chicken was soggy and not crispy whatsoever. The two Buffalo chickens weren’t shaken in any sauce so I had to go get two sides of Buffalo sauce and pour them on the sandwich. The fries were luke warm at best. My wife and I were introduced to Boxcar Betty from a friend at their original Charleston location. Over the years we have been to their Summerville and Charleston locations. We have always had positive experiences. We have sent many of our friends to check them out. We went to the Charlotte location today as we were unable to make Charleston on this trip. Seriously disappointed. It’s not the same Boxcar Betty. It seems that when decent places expand out of their area, the quality goes down. Optimist Hall is a cool place to stop and has lots of cool stores inside. Many food options as well. We will not be back to this location though. I encourage anyone reading this review to check out their Charleston location!
I purchased the Boxcar sandwich and it was good. The chicken was fried perfectly. Hot, juicy and tender. The peach slaw tasted good, but I wasn't getting the peach flavors at all. The fries were amazing! The food would've been perfect if the got a different bread. It was soft, but it didn't add to the sandwich. Maybe if it was toasted it would've been better. Anyway, I enjoyed my sandwich and fries. And decently priced.
I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich and fries. Unfortunately I took the picture after I started eating. It smelled so good that I couldn't help myself. The chicken was crispy with tons of flavor. The fries were also crispy and nicely seasoned. This was the best chicken sandwich that I've tried in Charlotte. Delicious!
Went here for the first time tonight and it was amazing, I told my boyfriend I felt like I was eating chick fil a on steroids lol. The pimento cheese & bacon jam chicken sandwich was truly good quality and delicious. I will definitely be back.

My company placed serval orders for our workers and when the orders arived it was all in one bag and not in separate bags with the french fries. The French Fries we're all in one bag with the sandwiches and the fries were not wrapped up. With this covid going on it should have been in separate bags. Like firehouse subs..
Was excited to try the Boxcar sandwich since it has so many good reviews. I was very disappointed. Looked good at first glance, but after the first bite I got sad. Didn't even finish it. Flavorless and unseasoned are the words that come to mind.
Best chicken sandwich in the Carolinas. Was sad to see that the build your own sandwich wasn't an option on the menu this time. Can't go wrong with the Chicken -Not-so-waffle. Amazing fries and fried chicken!
Loved the Plain Jane chicken sandwich here. It's filling and there's quite a few tasty variations you can get here of a chicken sandwich.
