Very knowledgeable servers at an upscale restaurant, within a trendy multi-purpose complex. The menu offered a nice mix for all types, including vegan. The wine selection is broad the menu selections compliment the food well.
We had a reservation, and honestly it’s a real good place to go to whether you’re out of town or wanting a date out and you’re from chapel hill. Cozy Atmosphere, European Kitchen, Great Service, Lovely Drinks, and the most importantly PHENOMENAL FOOD.I know the menu changes often and if I can do it I’ll come back for when the menu is different (when I’m in town that is). It was a great time, and I thoroughly enjoyed the food the tar tar was amazing! If you want a good time overall, I highly recommend Hawthorne and Wood.
would give this place infinite stars if i could! by far my favorite restaurant, hawthorne & wood blows my mind every time i’ve gotten to visit.this time, my boyfriend and i went to celebrate a promotion at work (will always be my pick for a celebratory dinner) and as usual, everything was plated beautifully, reasonably priced and tasted like food from a michelin starred restaurant. we shared the chicken thigh confit as a first course, then i got the scallops and he got the pork chop. for dessert we tried the berry pavlova and the strawberry ice cream sandwich. i also had the yuzu sunshine cocktail, with sesame whiskey, yuzu, and egg white, which i loved!the menu changes seasonally, so i’m always excited to try new things each time i go. servers are friendly, knowledgeable, and make you feel super cared for while not being at all overbearing. i can’t wait to try their new sister restaurant, bluebird!
Wonderful atmosphere! The food is elegant, light, and delicious. The Chef is to be commended because it’s evident his heart is in what he’s doing!! I can’t say enough about the food!! EXTREMELY DELICIOUS!! The entire wait staff is outstanding, especially our server, he was outstanding. He definitely added to the overall wonderful experience!!! I highly recommend this restaurant. Fine dining at its best. 5-star all the way!!
Service from waiter was attentive, in correct measure. The choices were OK, but overly clever, don't like blueberries with pork chop which was pink as it came close to bone. Interior was attractive, nice vibe. Fried olives in charcuterie platter were too small, undistinguished. Salad with gem lettuce was nice, but a lot of to do abt little result. Had heard good things about food at H&W, but for pricepoint, I want more satisfying food. Oh, the cornbread with pork chop was supposed to be unusual, but it wasn't that good. Need to revisit some of these quirky aspects and infusion of words that even foodies among us have never seen. I think that's showing off but not getting the bang intended.
This place was INCREDIBLE. Not only was the food amazing but the service is OUTSTANDING. Aaron helped us and made it such an incredible experience. They even change your plate and silverware between each course and plan out your meal so courses are served one at a time. Our server, Aaron, recommended the General Tso Cauliflower and oh my goodness, you'd never know it was cauliflower! I also thoroughly enjoyed the cheese board and salad. We had this delicious little ice cream sandwich dessert made with lychee and sesame seeds. The flavors were just so delectable. All the fruit was SO fresh. They hand squeeze all their juices and I had two very fresh mocktails. They even brought us a plate with a candle and free little dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. I can't say enough great things. Aaron also mentioned they are opening a French bistro soon across the street in the same complex, can't wait!
We enjoyed dinner at Hawthorne & Wood this Father's Day. Our daughter currently lives in Carrboro, NC after graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill this past May and she chose this restaurant as the one she wished to take her father to for Father's Day 2022. We live in Tampa, Florida and our family has had the great fortune to travel to many countries and cities due to my husband's work in the wine industry for 23+ years. With that being said, we all agreed on this particular evening (after having Heather as our server and the kitchen staff that was ROCKIN' IT in the kitchen!) that we had just experienced one of the best dining experiences any of us can recall together. From the wine list from which we chose a wonderful 2021 Greek White to the starters of the cauliflower and crudo we knew we were in for a real treat. Our entrees of the pork chop, the flounder, and the scallops were all amazing and just "exquisite" as my husband said. (And our daughter noted out loud that she has never heard him use that word for a dining experience!) Then Heather explained all three desserts in quite visual detail that we went with all three and were happy that we did so. We will BE BACK! A Facebook "foodies" group that our daughter joined a while back provided her with the idea to book Hawthorne & Wood for Father's Day and then to have the great fortune to have Heather as our efficient, experienced, and kind server simply made the evening even better. With many thanks and stellar congratulations on a great team at Hawthorne & Wood!
Best dinner we have had in a while! Every dish was delicious and attention to detail was clear!

So happy to have a gem like this in Chapel Hill. THANK YOU!
Absolutely lovely experience! Service was amazing. Our server had a large party of maybe 15 people arrive after we had started our service and yet he always managed to remain attentive to our food (and even water refill) needs. The atmosphere is clean and classy. The food delicious and presentation beautiful.Wonderful idea for a date night or business meeting. ?
