What makes a good burger? Good quality beef, perfect amount of toppings, nestled in a nice bun. Al's Burger Shack might be the definition of a great burger!!! You can taste the freshness of the beef and that is actually seasoned that most places do not. They didn't overdo it with the toppings, just the perfect amount to compliment the beef. They finish it with the freshest bun that tasted like it was made fresh that day. That umami flavor after the first, second and third bite will have you wanting more! If you're looking for a great burger this is a must-have!!!

Wow! This was one of the best burgers I have had, and this is a really cool little place. Pretty inexpensive and the burger was cooked to temp exactly as requested. Definitely recommend the Mookie burger and Al's Burger Shack!

I love this place. The burgers are always delicious (truly the best around), the seasoned fries are awesome, and my dog and I absolutely love their outdoor seating area. Highly recommend if you’re in this area.

We ate outside at Al’s Burgers in Southern Village, near Chapel Hill today for lunch. It’s a little over an hour’s drive from our home, but so worth it! I had the BoBo Chili Cheeseburger with mustard, chili, slaw (no onions for me) and fries. The cheeseburger is “melt in your mouth” scrumptious with a tender bun, perfect mustard and crunchy white slaw with wonderfully flavored chili. The whole sandwich holds together well which is saying a lot for normally messy “Carolina” style burgers. The fries were hot, crispy, and seasoned just right. Also, just up the street is a gelato place for a yummy after-burger treat.

This place honestly hasn’t been the same since they changed to the smaller patty. The size or price doesn’t bother me, and the staff is always awesome. But in my opinion the previous meat used to taste better and work better with the toppings. I used to be twice a week and have only been back twice since the patty change. Not sure what the cause was im just being honest.

Small foot print in terms of dining in, so beware for those with bigger groups or diners in wheelchairs or needing a walker. They do have one large, long table in the center of the restaurant but there’s more stool/bar like seating than tables & chairs - though there is a few outdoor tables as well. But their burgers are great {so I’m told by family, I don’t eat burgers..}The Melly Mel is my fave - fried chicken breast..Their veggie burger is good too, try it with their garlic aioli or spicy Mayo. Extra sauces are 65 cents. If you don’t like Rosemary, ask for the fries without it, but I find them surprisingly good even though it’s not an herb I’m too fond of.After eating, check out Weaver Street Market for treats and snacks to go.

Great for a quick bite with friends. Their veggie burger falls apart as you eat it but I can’t be mad because I’m grateful for the option! The sweet potato fries are the best in town

First time eating here.. Friendly staff.Very cute, cozy outdoors set up. Burger was fresh but small. Fries were nice and crisp/fresh but seasoning was different than we are used to.

Really great burgers! Fries with rosemary and sea salt are awesome too!
