Awful service. Host stand is super rude! So disappointing since this has always seemed like such a cool place.
We had a wonderful dinner. I had the short ribs and they were so tender and delicious. We ate outside on the patio and fly diverters were provided for the tables. They really work to keep the flies off your food and drinks. Will be back here!
Arrived for lunch at 11. The server told us there was no soup or salmon left. French Dip sandwich was cold; side salad was an embarrassment to salad everywhere; French fries were overcooked matchsticks.
I am not ashamed to say that I went here for brunch, then the next day I came back for dinner!Absolutely wonderful! For brunch, I got French toast and the daily omelette. The French toast was incredible! The omelets had perfectly cooked eggs. For dinner, I shared the pimento cheese dip and Brussels sprouts as starters. Highly recommend both, but especially the pimento cheese! I got the burger with fries (described by our waiter as a ‘bougie big mac’) which was so very good!!Both of our waiters were incredibly kind and service was so fast!
Set in the heart of downtown Cary, this in-house eatery of the trendy Mayton Inn is a solid bet. The lunch menu is precise and layered with some uncommon hits. The outdoor space, currently, is a bit noisy due to the ever expanding nature of downtown Cary. But once the whole vision is realized, this may be the best outdoor space in all of Cary to enjoy a meal.
April 15, 2022 - Peck & Plume Restaurant is new, ( replaced Verandah in 2021) The Mayton! Sounds confusing, but order up a NC craft beer ?, or glass of La Celia Melbec . . . and relax either in their newly decorated bar, or newly wall papered dining room, or in their lively outside garden terrace !You’ll be glad you came ! Our daughter surprised us with a dinner reservation at this renovated historic boutique hotel/restaurant. At one time was the home of Cary Mayor Waverly Mayton. Our server, Maya was delightful & prompt! Our daughter selected a wonderful Melbec from Argentina, ($38 bottle) very good, full bodied medium dry!We learned Chef Steve Zanini’s menu looked exciting, but he had the day off. . . Tyler Trice , Sous Chef in charge, Not to Worry! We split a mixed greens salad ( from local farms Joyce & Blue Sky) which included lettuce, grapes, apples, buttermilk blue cheese, pickled fennel, red onion, with a white balsamic dressing. EXCELLENT!Onto our Entrees! My wife ordered up a southern favorite Shrimp & Grits with smoked tomatoes , bacon, asparagus, mushrooms, and scallions. . . which she loved! My daughter selected the “house favorite” bone-in Short Braised Rib with farro Parmesan Risotto, braised veggies, asparagus frites. . . which she said was FANTASTIC! Finally, Maya suggested if hungry, I might try the large bone-in Ribeye with crispy potato medallions, spinach custard , and house-made steak sauce . . . Cooked perfectly at Medium! One of the best steaks ever, outside of Texas!Sadly with fill stomachs saying “NO” , our eyes said, “YES”! All the desserts are homemade, so Maya suggested we split the their house chocolate special . . . “Chocolate Cre’meux” . . . Artwork on a plate with a variety of textures to tweak tastebuds ! Wow! Sooooo Good! ????This is a good restaurant within a nice boutique hotel, that would serve as a wedding venue or for special events, maybe reunions, anniversary dinners, or Holiday parties!* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Tid bits of Interest ?*Former Mayor of Cary, Waverly Mayton*Mayton Inn, was Waverly Mayton’s home*Deanna & Colin Crossman renovated the Mayton home, into 44 room boutique hotel 2008-2020*Verandah Restaurant in Mayton Inn*Bankruptcy declared, sold Mayton Inn 2020*Academy Park Hospitality buys Mayton Inn April 2020*Re-named The Mayton reopens*Peck & Plume Restaurant opens, under Executive Chef Steve Zanini*Manager Kevin . . . explains the story behind the name “ Peck & Plume” . . . We fell in love with this restaurant the minute we walked through the door. We passed through the warm and inviting library into the bright and airy dining room overlooking the patio. The service was impeccable and both dishes- the Beef Short Rib and Shrimp and Grits-were delicious. I look forward to dining here again on our return trip to Cary.
My wife and I visited for dinner and we both are super excited to come back again to try brunch! This is probably one of our new favorite spots in town! Everything was super delicious and presented beautifully including the drinks! They do run private events from time to time so it's worth calling ahead or making a reservation.
We went for lunch on a Monday afternoon.Food - 5/5 (It was exceptional)Presentation - 5/5 (very sophisticated)Service - 3/5 (my drink arrived 30 mins after I placed my order and food took forever).I'll return for the food but you have to work on the service.Note: the French toast bread pudding is just mind blowing. 100% recommended.
I found this by accident. I was looking for a breakfast place near a flooring store so we could just 'drop' by after we ate. The food was great and the brunch menu also looks amazing. So we will be back. Lovely place and a great outdoor space.
