My family ordered takeout on a Saturday night. The food was pretty good. Nothing major to complain about regarding quality, but also nothing particularly remarkable. The real problem—and it’s not a minor one given the whole situation—was that our food was ready 40 minutes late. We put in a order at 5:25, and the pickup was supposed to be ready at 6:20. It wasn’t ready then, and the host didn’t appear to know what was going on with the delay. The host goes to check things, but never returns. I hear nothing else until the food comes out around 7 (over 90 minutes after I originally called in the order). Here’s why I’m even more frustrated: I was given no apology, no discount, no complimentary food, not even a proper explanation except the kitchen had been working on several pickup orders (mine was not the only order that was very delayed). The restaurant was busy-ish, but by no means full or overwhelmed as far as I could tell. And a couple at the bar confirmed that the placed wasn’t that full. I’d be willing to give this place another shot, but this whole delay-and-no-compensation-or-apology/explanation thing really leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Every time I go to Gonza I not only hey great food but also excellent service. I've eaten there maybe a dozen times in the last few years and I've never had a single bad experience. I love the there taco plates, especially the barbacoa... The meat is juicy, without leaving my hands dripping, and the spices are bold without overpowering the dab of sauce and sprinkle of cabbage. The bartenders are also great. Excellent selection of tequila and fresh tasting mixers. Someone I was reading with once ordered a spicy margarita and it was too spicy for them. I thought it was great and offered to trade, but much to my embarrassment they asked for one that was slightly less spicy. I recognize the extra-ness of the request, but the server and bartender just rolled with it, got her a new one and let us keep the spicy one.I really hope everyone in the front and back of the house is treated well, because I certainly appreciate their work.
Great food, great atmosphere, great decoration and great style. This is a Mexicanized AMERICAN restaurant. There is nothing wrong with that. I'm not sure if the owner, chef, or cooks are Mexican, but the food was authentic, yet Modern. The authentic flavor was there, but it was also different. Authentic in the sense that it resembles Mexican street food, but unlike that street food it's not so cheap. To be honest it is some of the best Mexican food that I've had in the Area. The ambiance is great for a date or dinner with the family. The Spicy Pepino specialty drink was refreshing, and not so spicy. The queso, guac, and salsa with chips is also great.I tried ordering the carne asada tacos in a Spanish/Mexican accent and was corrected with its English/American pronunciation which was difficult to sit through. This restaurant did not receive a perfect score because the Authenticity of Mexican food and culture was good, but something felt like it was missing. However, I don't know what. So, let's just say a 4.5 is my official score. I am Mexican and grew up eating Mexican food in Mexico and on the West Coast.
This restaurant is very average in terms of quality and service. It is nothing spectacular or noteworthy.Food is quality and taste are pretty bland and basic as well as overpriced for what you get and pay for and the service makes you wanna go elsewhere as the staff seems more interested talking with other employees then helping people. One advice I will give for people looking to visit this place is to avoid the drinks. The bartender does not know how to make drinks and all the drinks either come out too sweet or too strong.
I've been to three Gonza locations now and this one is my favorite for atmosphere. When the weather is nice they open up the windows and you have a nice indoor/outdoor experience and you can see the plaza and water fountain. The food is super tasty and the staff is knowledgeable and takes allergy precautions seriously. I always look forward to future visits.
Kind of interesting place to eat. Service was a little meh. Server did ok, but just was kind of off/odd? Maybe it was an off night? Not real smooth, almost like they were distracted or everyone was new. They have a nice thick queso dip for the chips and a very flavorful stone ground salsa.Serving sizes were ok, though some seemed a little light. The Callo de Hacha Tacos had very tender and succulent scallops chopped and mixed with cubed pork belly. Though the scallops were well prepared, the pork was tough and not as flavorful. I would have expected the belly to be almost the same consistency as the scallops, but no.The Camaron had very well prepared fried shrimp with a nice spicy chipotle sauce - though the cilantro was a little heavy. The Mexican Flag was quite interesting. Was not expecting the Mexican cream to be as sweet as it was, but it was a pretty good compliment to the tomatillo sauce. This dish was pretty good and decent serving size.I really liked the Tortilla Soup that was one of the side dishes. It is a nice creamy shredded chicken soup with great flavor that was robust but not overly spicy. It was probably one of the highlights of my meal.
Seated quickly, server was right there with water. Atmosphere was fun. Tables are not cramped together. Our carnitas, and quesadillas were great. The side rice was delicious. Nice night out
(4.5 ⭐)came here for dine in without a reservationwe got the Al pastor ( tasty but which was more like carnitas with pineapple) , tortilla chicken soup ( which was delicious),and the ceviche of the day was a shrimp coconut dish.they served free chips n salsa on the table and were generally quick with service
Great atmosphere, awesome food but, what really stood out was the fabulous service. I would highly recommend this place. Great outdoor and indoor eating.
As a Californian out on east coast for business and this is my go-to at least half of each week I’m out here. Food is fresh and flavorful. Drinks are crisp and cold.As a Mexican I am happy to taste some traditional flavors with a modern twist whilst so far from home. I’ll be taking some of he Colombian influence home!By far the best thing is the bartender, Sarah. She is amazing. Capable of full conversation while running the bar AND providing recommendations to local dives AND remembering your order all with a cheerful attitude. The manager is super nice as well!I spent 9 years in restaurants and food service. Sarah is the total package. Deserves a heavy raise and/or a promotion hands down. Don’t lose this one!4/5 Food with 6/5 ServiceWould come at any opportunity
