We ordered their summer plate as an appetizer. The cantaloupe and prosciutto were good; however the “homemade” mozzarella tasted like rubber and the tomatoes were worse than grocery store which is inexcusable in late July in NC. We also had soup and pizza. Our family member did not like the soup (which we tried to cancel as it arrived after the pizza) and the pizza would have been much better with sauce. This restaurant is confused whether it is Italian or Mexican and everything we found was lacking. The ambiance went from relaxing Italian music to confusing Mexican. We sat overlooking the kitchen which did nothing to improve the experience. They would be better served to close it off creating a better restaurant atmosphere and hopefully they can make some food upgrades as well.
I went tonight hoping for nice light plate of Carbonara. i guess I've been spoiled by watching Stanley Tucci's "Searching for Italy", the Rome episode. The carbonara in that was a beautiful golden pasta dish with sliced guanciale, the eggs stirred into the cooked pasta for a delicate golden colored dish. What I got at Teresa's was not. Not in the same ballpark. Not even in the same country. The plate came out with a mass of something covered with a thick whitish cheesy sauce, like you might see in a low-rent Mexican restaurant concealing a bad burrito. There were 4 small pieces of nearly burnt, hard and crispy guanciale on it. I teased out a bit of the pasta; that was ok. But the sauce covered everything with a thick coating of bland blah. Never again. The rest of the meal was better. The bread and salad were good; the house Italian was light and fresh. The Pistacchio Ricotta Cake (their spelling) was very good. I enjoyed a glass of tart Sauvignon Blanc. But they couldn't make up for the disappointment of the main dish. Service staff was overworked; two women handling all the tables inside and out. I had to wait over a half hour for the main course, although they kept me supplied with bread, salad and a piece of bruschetta.
2 servers came in for their shift, didn’t wash their hands before attending to our table, no apron nothing showing they were ready to work. Server, young man held my husbands glass by the rim, we were disgusted. We were the only ones in the place the ambience was good the sauce was delicious! We also saw another server place our bread in the oven with no gloves went from one duty to touching food with no hand washing. This is basic for training staff, being in the food industry I wouldn’t return because of the staff practice and the owner was sitting at the bar on the computer while this all happened we visited 7/9/22 around 4pm. Also over priced for the amount of food but again flavors were spot on.
My husband and I ate here in January! Food was wonderful, we had to wait quite a long time and the staff were having some issues. But it was the most delicious Italian food I have had.Update: there seems to have been a name change to only Teresa’s
Authentic actual Italians own and operate this place. It's called Teresa's now since Alex went back to Italy! Wonderful experience and in-house made menu with lots of suggestions on what to eat. Freshly made everything it seems! A rare treat (and treat yourself because the prices are high to match the quality!)
This is a fantastic hole-in-the-wall local Italian place. It is a no-flair experience but the flavors and cuisine make it a must stop. Their calamari was delicious and paired with a fantastic homemade marinara sauce. Both of our pasta dishes were flavorful and the homemade pasta made it fresh and authentic. We will definitely be back and are excited to try several other items off the menu. The pizzas also looked very good and can't wait to try them!
So we are in Raleigh Durham for a long weekend and a wedding. We love the southern food but were hankering for some authentic Italian cooking. This is the place to be sure. The food, The ambiance and service were all great. Such a welcome change to the chain restaurants!
Took us over an hour to even get drinks today. Tea and apple juice was the same color. Tasted it and it was at least 2 days old or the urns aren't cleaned thoroughly. Chicken carbonara tasted like chicken and pastry. Everyone traded their plates because only 2 out of seven liked their food. I ended up with the gnocchi which tasted like unflavored mochi. Very rubbery and tasteless. I had to use the table oil to give the dish some sort of life to be able to eat it. One server for the whole place. Our reservation was for 530 and we didn't get out of there until around 8pm.I understand staffing is an issue everywhere but if I have to wait that long for food- it at least needs to be good. It will be a while before I return. The business is transitioning and my hope is that they bounce back.
Avoid this place at all costs...and cost is premium for tiny portions that is mostly sauce. Disgusted
Visited for the first time for a wine dinner, recommended by our friends. Absolutely recommend! Will be visiting them several times for various occasions
