Had lunch here today and the food was good and the service was great. Here’s why I’m only giving it 3 stars. On their website they claim to be “committed to working together with our local community, supporting and encouraging each other by choosing local ingredients and beers first whenever possible.” I bought into the story behind the name “The Local”. But it seems to be, as is often the case with restaurants like this, just a story that sounds great but not very reflective of reality.Of all the things that should be easy to source locally any month of the year, I think of bread. I wanted a sandwich so I asked our server what bakery they get their sourdough from, she wasn’t sure but checked with the kitchen for me. The answer was that they just get it from their supplier and don’t know where it’s made. Which means it is very unlikely that they are sourcing from one of the small business bakeries right here in Boone. So I saw they claim their gluten free bread comes from “Little Northern Bakery”. Sounds lovely, so I googled the bakery only to find they are a company located in British Columbia, Canada. So much for local bread.I wanted to ask our server where they get the potatoes to make the pub chips that she said are made in house, but didn’t want to occupy more of her time running back and forth to the busy kitchen with questions. The items we ordered looked like typical restaurant fare and I question what if any is bought from local farms. The owner or manager is welcome to respond and offer clarity on what ingredients are sourced from local producers.
We arrived to Boone, late last night. We had seen this place the previous time we visited, so after looking at the menu we took a chance. Our server, Beth, was so sweet & eager to make our dining experience outstanding. We also met Lanie, one of the managers on duty and she was telling us about what we can do in and around Boone.Such a friendly young woman! Our son has orientation at Appalachian State, today. After a long day I had to have something like comfort food, I went with the Alfredo pasta with grilled chicken. It was just what I needed. My husband ordered a burger and one to go for our son. No complaints! They love burgers!Great atmosphere at The Local. I highly recommend it!
Delish dinner experience at the Local. There was some wait to begin with, as this place is clearly popular among locals and tourists alike, but the waiting system with a text to your phone when the table is ready worked great. Everything we had was fantastic: tender beef tips with a nice flavorful sauce, perfectly fried plantains and fresh beet salad with goat cheese and local trout. Nice, upbeat and relaxed atmosphere and good service at the bar area were exactly what we craved! Will visit again.
Check it out! The Local DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!!! Great food and even better service! We had to find a quick bite eat that was open late on our way out of town.and even though we arrived 10 minutes before the kitchen closed our was amazing !!! Erin our waitress was so knowledgeable about the menu ans gave us great recommendations, don’t miss out on this hidden gem!
This is a great place to eat in Boone. We had cheese balls, shrimp tacos, grilled cheese, and a cheeseburger. We all enjoyed our meals. Service was attentive and quick. I would definitely go back again.
Came here while in town for a quick vacation. It was pretty freaking delicious. We ordered cheese curds and the Thai tidbits for app. The sauce was quite good and the steak was cooked well. The entrees were also extremely delicious. I would definitely order again. I could see why this place is so popular. For two people, eating and drinking, with dessert, it’s about how much I am used to.
We come here every time we come to Boone, always a favorite. Love their chicken Caesar and their flatbread pizza. Inside and outside, and pet friendly.
Good restaurant and close to campus. Went to see granddaughter at App State and this is close to campus and fun for her friends. Pizzas and fish.
✨ Phenomenal experience! ✨ Our waiter Jason gave us some excellent recommendations from the menu. The food was exquisite, fried Brussel sprouts, wow!! (Thank you Jason)! Grilled shrimp tacos, steak sandwich made with sliced New York Strip, Cuban handheld and a plant based burger. Not one complaint from any of us, can’t wait to go back again! Mississippi pie is waiting for me! ?
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. The wait time wasn’t bad at all and our server, Shaeden, was super kind and super helpful. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you live or are visiting the Boone area!
