Top of the Monk is hands down one of the best cocktail bars in the country (I’ve been to a lot ?). We drive from Nashville often just to visit. Blake and Chloe are always so accommodating and willing to make the perfect cocktail just for you. We love sitting at the bar with them! If you’re looking for the ultimate cocktail experience (speakeasy style) Top of the Monk is it!
With all the great reviews I thought I was going to experience the best martini I ever had in my life. Big let down. The vodka choices were average at best. They Sprayed something inside the glass first, thinking it was a spray vermouth and it was some kind of concentrated wine. Made the martini taste so bitter, yuck I’ve head much better at my local bar

Cocktails were great! Male bartender acted like he's someone special. Female bartender was great. At $16 each B4 tip, kind of pricey but again, they were very good.Some beers in the can as well. Cool outside porch area. View of sunset.
This place is so great!!!! And Blake is definitely one of the best bartenders I’ve ever experienced! Ever!!! And I have been to some of the best cocktail bars in the world! I just gave him some of my taste preferences, and he made me some stellar cocktails - like he read my mind! I absolutely cannot wait to come back again!!! Thanks for an amazing evening!!!
The Top of the Monk provides an ethereal cocktail experience that never disappoints and always exceeds expectations. Blake is one of the most brilliant bartenders I've ever encountered and genuinely cares about finding the perfect drink to match your preference. He makes the place. Being in Asheville for five years, I can't believe it took me so long to discover this gem. After your first visit, you'll be planning your next. So grateful for a bar that makes everyone feel welcome while creating spectacular cocktails. Once you go to the Top, you'll never want to go back down.

*update* I appreciate the Josephine Butler quote, but unfortunately this doesnt clarify why their reference to Black Mariah being anything but scary is appropriate. I hope change will come in this context and wish the establishment all the best and the sincere opportunity to grow in what it takes to be an ally or welcoming to people of color.*past review*This is not an establishment welcoming to people of color. The menu boasts a particularly saddening menu item “the black mariah” “that is anything but scary” to perpetuate the angry black woman racial bias. When the bartenders were asked if there was any meaning behind it the response was “it refers to mariah carey before she dated nick cannon” and burst out laughing and later another bartender joked with him about turning away from my friend and I. Which is even more disappointing given the menu boasts a reference to Josephine Butler - which i sincerely hope has a form of positive intent but unlikely given the lack of allyship. For those who are more comfortable following the county’s mask the bar tenders dont wear masks (i.e. dangling on one ear or chin). Great cocktails but will not be comfortable with a third visit nor comfortable being a customer of any thirsty monk establishments.
This is always one of my favorite stops when I come to Asheville. The drinks are top notch, with a beautiful atmosphere and rooftop seating.
