We do things a bit different with our dining experiences.... We always ask the waiter or waitress their favs and compare to their best sellers then usually have the staff choose for us. That being said, our waiter chose Étouffée, shrimp n grits , and the seafood gumbo, and french toast for our entrees. All we great great!. Great Cajun atmosphere, and I personally loved the 80s music they were playing too. Loved it!!
Excellent dinner, great location, waitress was awesome & knowledgeable of menu items, great portions, reasonable pricing. All this makes for a repeat visit. Seafood gumbo had tomatoes & corn, not typical but lots of crawfish tails. Seafood etouffee was decent, although the shrimps were a bit undercooked. Chicken pasta special was top notch. Blue salad was on point. Beignets were on the dense side, not airy. Calamari was a killer with added arugula & marinara sauce.
What a welcome sight for us Louisiana-born visitors. Had a very nice lunch on the covered patio— a muffaletta and eggs & sausage w/ very nice cheesy grits. Family-friendly
If you are a lover of breakfast then this is your place in Asheville. True Southern hone cooking and the biscuits are out of this world. Asheville scramble was great and we also tried the chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy .. Yum yugrest wait staff. You won’t regret the stop
On our way to a food tour in Asheville we walked past Mayfel’s, there was a huge beignet sign on the sidewalk that caught our eyes. It is a cute Louisiana inspired restaurant that is dog friendly. We immediately decided that we were coming back before the end of our trip and sure enough we stopped here for a late breakfast/early lunch our last day.The service was fast and the staff was very friendly. The food was so so good! I’ve been to New Orleans a few times now and always get shrimp étouffée and this is up there! Great taste, a lot of shrimp and crawfish, nothing other than a little hot sauce was needed. My husband got the biscuit and gravy and ate the entire plate. Said the biscuits were amazing and the perfect serving! I can’t wait to travel back here in the future. We ate the beignets so fast so we didn’t get to take a photo of it.
The fried crab cake appetizer, beignets, and fried chicken biscuit with gravy were all great for Saturday brunch at Mayfel’s in Asheville! I upgraded to sausage gravy on the biscuit but it didn’t need it; the regular peppered gravy would have been fine because it was already very flavorful. The outside covered sidewalk patio is heated and was quite comfortable. I recommend it!
Went here twice once for a little lunch snack and then dinner. Stopped for a snack and had the Tomato bisque and Beignets which both was awesome. The best Tomato bisque soup I have ever had. Went back for dinner a couple days later and had the best Fried Green tomatoes and meat loaf ever and had the Beignets again. My wife had the shimp and grits and she said it was totally awesome and she loved the Beignets and Fried Green tomatoes. Highly recommend this place for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The hostesses were also very good and understanding because I have a service dog no problem with anything.
Outdoor seating, friendly, welcoming staff. Menu is southern style with great Cajun flair. Reasonably priced. Some vegetarian fares.
Oh my, this is why I visit the south! I’m from the pacific northwest, so I’m always craving some good southern food while exploring the area, and this place did not disappoint! Elevated food with the comfort of a classic friendly restaurant. Shrimp and grits were heavenly. Cannot wait to visit again.
