Where do I begin.. Well, the story starts over 25+ years ago with my first visit to Asheville. I was mostly vegetarian and was looking for a place to dine. On asking the front desk person at our hotel I was given the name and location of Laughing Seed and proceeded to head over. I was blown away, the vibe was awesome, the food was absolutely amazinballz and the service beyond exceptional.Fast forward 25+ years and I can say, without a doubt, they are still hitting one of the top restaurants in Asheville for me every time I visit. I have never, ever had anything below level of service, quality of food or enjoyment of the ambiance than we did on my first visit. As a long time restaurant manager/server/bartender I know how hard it is to keep the standard that solid, but they have and we apricate it every time we go.I always take friends and family when they come to town with the promise "it's vegan/vegetarian that isn't vegan/vegetarian!" and it's not. I have cooked vegan/vegetarian for ever and while I can hit fantastic flavor, texture and taste almost every time, these guys never miss the mark. Their faux items are of such high quality & taste that my meat eating friends are always blown away by how good it is, and for any and every vegetarian/vegan I would say this is the bench mark for food.Their food is matched by amazing service. Over the years I have (again) never had a rough service experience. They have always been professional, kind, thoughtful, efficient & fun. Each has been beyond welcoming and really made me feel at home. This is a direct reflection of management, and while I have never meet the owner or manager, I will say they must take great care of their staff as I know that is how you have such great people.I could go on and on about Laughing Seed, but what I will say is if your thinking about it, just pondering going, even a tiny inclination to give it a try then get your butt over the their door and enjoy some amazing food and service.Thank you Laughing Seed for over 25 years of amazing! I will continue to visit and be amazed!
If you are looking for vegan/vegetarian/gluten free meal search no more ... this is the place. Food is awesome for those needing/wanting a good meal that meats their dietary restrictions. We were able to sit out on the patio and it was wonderful on a Saturday night. Very cute surroundings. My wife (the gluten free one) raved about her meal and even the dessert (which she normally can't find because of the dairy in most recipes). I would give my meal a 4.5 based on I'm more of a meat eater, but it was still good. Service was good and would welcome the opportunity to visit again!
So lovely to go to a restaurant where you are not limited to 2 options but instead have a whole menu! But overwhelming, too! I really wanted to try it all but I went with the harmony bowl and the Asian seasame dressing really was amazing. My husband had the mushroom pizza which was yummy but had almost 20 whole cloves of roasted garlic- phew! I am a garlic lover and even so it was a bit over powering. The pizza dough and pesto were spot on, though. Slightly pricey but portion sizes were huge and it does feel nice to leave a restaurant full with nutritious and fresh foods!
My partner and I have been eating here for over 25 years ! Its always delicious and the atmosphere is nice whether you eat outside or in. The entrees are vegan or vegetarian. Most recently we met friends and sat outside at a sidewalk table w/ umbrella. Service was prompt and our waitperson was friendly and helpful. The location on Wall St is good too - close to the parking garage and nice to take a stroll after dinner. I highly recommend Laughing Seed.
I recently bought tempeh Reuben which cost $17 dollars. I said I wanted vegan cheese, they charge $2 for everything. The lady didn’t tell me the side order would cost money too. I ended up buying the kids pizza for my son, and said I wanted vegan cheese, that was extra $2 on top of the $7 dollar pizza. Thinking this place is vegan, they charge for everything you want vegan. I spent almost $42 for some cheap vegan food. The fries was full of oil, too much oil . I am disappointed, too expensive for nothing.

There are probably a plethora of vegetarian choices in Asheville and normally as a mixed couple (I'm vegetarian, my husband a meat eater) we seek out places to suit both of our food choices. However, my husband wanted to try a purely vegetarian meal and I thought the menu and options at Laughing Seed were fantastic! We shared an appetizer cheese and fauxcuterie plate. It was very creative! The pickled celery and mushrooms were delicious! The cheeses were fantastic. Both my husband and I thought the faux pepperoni was a fail for us but it had more to do with the texture -- the taste was remarkably pepperoni like. I had a "small" Laughing Seed Salad which was a very generous size for a small. I added avocado and feta and again, I was impressed with the amount that they gave me. My husband tried the Harmony Bowl with grilled tempeh. Again - it was very generous size and his first experience with tempeh. I tasted it and thought it was delicious. I don't think he'll become vegetarian any time soon but he enjoyed his vegetarian meal at Laughing Seed. Oh - and I also had their Chianti Classico -- I don't often see a good chianti on your average wine list and this glass of wine was remarkable. I really enjoyed it.
The food is delicious! The place is clean, good vibes, attentive service. Vegan food packed full of veggies — none of that fast food vegan stuff here! I had the crispy brussel sprouts, harmony bowl, and I love you honey bear to drink. All of it was on point!
I'm not sure why anyone would give this restaurant 1 star, the food was AMAZING and I'm not even vegetarian! The employees were super nice! The prices were a bit high, but welcome to downtown Asheville! If you are looking for something different, and healthy then you need to stop in ...
This is a solid vegan restaurant in a nice location. Staff were professional and friendly. The dining room had a nice ambiance. We had the Rueben and the seed burger. Both were fine.
