Yeah, no. Lots of people love the place. I used to go often in my neighborhood back in Charlotte. This one just didn't have the same feel to it. Staff was fun for the most part. The food, well I had to return the Cuban sandwich, maybe I am not the Cuban type. The Swiss and mushroom burger nothing to brag about. I don't know, maybe it's me but I won't try it again. The salad was perfect.
I came to this location because i was around to see if there was a different experience than the spartanburg location and it was a 10/10 experience! we had heather and she was a strong server and great! she was the only waitress and did amazing.
Great bartenders. Good food.But for the third summer in a row, the AC isn’t working and we’re getting the same excuses.I don’t understand how any self respecting human being can expect their staff or customers to put up with sitting in 80+ degree temperatures inside, and I can’t imagine what the kitchen staff is dealing with.Either spend the money to fix it, or reassess if your business should be open.Yes, first world problem. I’m aware.
Waitress was excellent. Had to send back food because it wasn't hot. When they brought out new food it was still the same. Didn't charge for it but felt it never should have been cold in the first place.
Long wait. Servers giving excuses. When asked for the manager- was told “kitchen is busy”. Waited 2 hours for food several times. I love this location at Biltmore Park, but they HAVE to get it together. I keep coming back hoping for better service, better kitchen management- and NOPE. Disappointed everytime. They are consistently terrible. Given them several chances- still to no avail.
We met our friends at the Hickory Tavern on Tuesday night around 6:00 PM. The restaurant was not busy, in fact u could count the number of people eating. We order dinner, waited one hour to get our dinner. When the food arrived three orders were cold and the other dinner was not the correct order. The server corrected the problem but what a fiasco. Good thing we were with our friends to enjoy one another. I would not recommend this restaurant until they get their act together.
If you’re looking for a place to eat I suggest skipping this place. First of all the smell in that place is awful. The girl that came to take our order took our orders for drinks then we didn’t see her for 15 minutes and it wasn’t even that crowded. Then when she came back she got our order. We ordered spinach dip for an appetizer and it was disgusting. Never have I been somewhere where they put full pieces of spinach and onions and cover it in bread crumbs. It also stunk but the smell of their fish that others had ordered was turning my stomach. You should never be able to smell fish like that. I got the steak tacos and it was so dry I choked on it. But I didn’t have anything to drink bc our waitress would not refill our drinks. It was not good at all. Our waitress was awful. We waited for our drinks to be refilled and she finally came after we finished all of our food. she brought soda in styrofoam cups one by one and refilled our drinks. The overall experience was awful and I would not recommend it to anyone!
Waited 30 minutes to be seated when originally told 20, not a big deal. But we then proceeded to wait an additional 50 minutes at the table after ordering and never got drinks or any food except for 3 cups of ketchup which we never even needed as we ordered salads and meals not needing ketchup. We talked to the waitress multiple times and were just told we were on the “list” for our drinks to be made…we ordered draft beer? We walked out without eating a thing after waiting well over and hour and 15. Will not be back.
Horrible experience here. Ordered an appetizer of Spinach and Artichoke dip that came out with chips that were cold, soggy, and inedible. The dip was sub par and not even warm, just a mess of quickly microwaved slop that had no taste. How this passed from the kitchen is beyond me. What a horrible kitchen and it's obvious the server didn't even glance at the dish before delivering as it was visibly gross When bringing this to our servers attention she didn't care at all and got an instant attitude with us. Unacceptable behavior as I was handling this in a kind and accepting manner, simply stating that my wife and I wanted to send the food back as it was pretty inedible. Well there was no apologies at all from our server, just instant attitude. Usually a server would take this as an opportunity to up their service and try to salvage the dining experience for the customer. This server decided to go the opposite direction though. What a shame as we were enjoying our drinks and the lunch up until this point. The gross appetizer didn't even upset us that badly. But the attitude was an instant downer. The manager eventually came over and gave a half assed apology and admitted that the appetizer was "a bad batch" but didn't do anything to make our experience better. Our server continued to give us attitude and barely checked up on us or even communicated to us after this and it further soured our experience. We had planned on staying and enjoying drinks after our meal until this happened and we just wanted to get out and find another bar. Our entrees were just mediocre anyway. The burger I ordered wasn't special in any way and was average at best. Can get better burgers at fast food restaurants, ugh I hate when I have to say that! So much better food offerings at the same or even cheaper price points in the area though. Terrible service, very bad to mediocre at best food. Will not be returning here. If in the area and reading this review I can only say to look elsewhere, there are much better restaurants around! What a shame. After reading the reviews of this place (wish I saw them before) and talking to another local friend, this seems to be pretty common for this place. Don't think we will ever return and will most definitely spread the word as wide as we can about this place. Terrible!
Terrible service. Server gave us menu then disappeared. A second server came to take drink orders, but couldn’t place bar orders because she wasn’t our service. Fist server returned nod didn’t know the menu and got the order wrong. I asked what was on tap and she replied a lot. Never offered a beer list. A third server appeared and said she was taking over our order. Finally got our food with no apology for the delay. Never had a manager check on the problems. It’s my last visit to Hickory Tavern.
