The atmosphere, the service, the food. Exceptional! Fig is the restaurant to go to!
We visited Fig frequently over the past decade, and generally found it a rewarding stop for an elegant lunch. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic has not been kind to them. When we stopped in today, a few minutes past opening, there was one table occupied inside and none on the patio. One of the servers said to grab a seat, so we did, a comfortable chair on a four-top under an umbrella. Very shortly, a most inhospitable "hostess" bustled out and demanded if we had a reservation. She then brusquely informed us that the seats were all reserved except for a small two-top crammed in next to the swinging door. There was no graciousness in her tone or demeanor. We got to sit on very hard plastic chairs while the comfortable chairs nearby went unfilled during our entire stay. The servers were characteristically pleasant. The menu is still "ladies-who-lunch" and you can expect to spend $50 for two people there. There's apparently no room for beer on tap, which is a shame considering how many top-notch craft breweries are in town. There's also a big parking problem -- the streets are narrow and oddly joined, and the only parking spaces are in a pay to park lot. Our theory is that the "hostess" recently moved here from New York City. It was a sad contrast to the "down-home" hospitality we've come to expect in western NC, but nothing good lasts forever.
Came across Fig while visiting Asheville and so glad we did. Food was excellent as was the service. Chef even came by the table to check in. So well decorated and cozy. I had the quiche which was probably the best I’ve ever had. Others had the Rueben sandwich and the egg salad/smoked salmon sandwich. We also shared not one but two orders of the fries (truffle parm) because they were that good. They take the time to hand cut the fries so you know they are the best. I’d definitely come back here. Our server (Jacob) was in training but you’d never know it if he hadn’t said. Service was quick and super friendly.
World class service provided by Erin. She was all over it…refills before I could even think of it… Located in the Biltmore Village and even open on a Monday! Was originally skeptical to order the chicken with black-eyed peas and okra. So glad I did, it was excellent. Not sure how they did the okra but it was perfect. (Thinly sliced and perfectly seared/pan fried) Black-eyed peas had a mustard sauce that was incredible. Salad as all main courses had a beautiful play presentation. Piled high with scrumptious greens. Wonderful Gorgonzola dressing.
Enjoyed a wonderful lunch on 3/3/22! It was a weekend reunion of friends and we couldn’t have started our time together at a better place. Traci is gracious and friendly and her staff put their heart into their work. Thanks!
Fig is awesome! We had the most wonderful lunch there. The quiche was light as a feather and incredibly tasty. I opted for the Pot de Creme for dessert, and it was absolutely heavenly. Chef Josh was kind enough to come and meet with us. What a delightful experience!
The whole building and all its businesses are too snobby, up scaled and exclusive. You can’t get a parking spot anywhere nearby even though they are all empty. You will never see normal Ashevillians there.
Fig was suggested to us for our trip and it definitely met expectations! The staff was very welcoming and the food was so fresh and DELICIOUS. The reuben was one of the best i’ve ever had.100% would eat here again, it’s worth the “bistro” prices I promise.
After reading other's reviews I chose this restaurant as a place to meet friends for lunch. I ordered the Ruben and found it greasy and salty. I drank 4 glasses of water while at lunch! The location is good, but the inside is small and noisy - there are no sound absorbing materials on the walls or floor .. so although it was a "cute" place, I would pass it up in the future.
House salad w chicken was fantastic. The mac and cheese was also perfect. Josh was on point and the whole lunch was a great break from the day.
