We had our rehearsal dinner here recently, and couldn't be more pleased. It was plain sailing from start to finish. Upon our intiial contact, everything was explained by extremely helpful staff and there were no hidden extra costs. The dining room was laid out nicely and the BBQ was beyond belief. Super friendly, efficient staff made our evening memorable.
It is a very cool joint. I took the server suggestion on a chicken sandwich but I did not like it. However, my wife order the brisket and it was delicious. Also, for being in downtown Asheville the servers should know a little bit more about the surroundings when asked for advice on where to walk around the area.
Really cool spot! Hush puppies were delicious. Highly recommend the Lions Share cocktails. Thank you to Scout for being a really kind and personable server. Food was awesome and the atmosphere is so cool! Huge windows with a little lovely mountain ridge view. They even have murals on the walls from 1936. Really cool little gem
In our planning for a trip to Asheville, my wife found Buxton Hall BBQ which had very good reviews. So were headed over on our way back to the hotel. Unfortunately, we were were late and had to settle for a takeout order ("Smoked Sausage Plate") which was very good. The area of the restaurant is mostly old buildings which have been renovated. From the signs that we say, it is an up and coming place for BBQ. The inside of the restaurant was neat and clean with some neat T-Shirts available. People were very helpful. The dining area was large. We are improving are BBQ taste. We plan to come back when we have more time to enjoy a dinner. Nice place, helpful people, & good food. We will be back.
My boyfriend and I were on a weekend away and this is his favorite BBQ in Asheville. We did take out and took it to the brewery next door to enjoy. The pimento cheese was the best I’ve ever had and the addition of sweet pickles and pickled onions was perfection. I also tried one of their salads which was also great, the lettuce was crispy and fresh, plenty of strawberries and goat cheese. Overall, would definitely go back on our next trip to Asheville.
We learned about this place from the Food Network, so our expectations were high. The atmosphere was neat and our waitress was friendly. We seated ourselves (per their sign's instructions) and apparently we sat in a table that gets served by the bar. a few wait staff saw us walk in and saw us sitting there staring around wondering what to do, yet never offered to help - even when they were just a table or two away. (they weren't overly busy - we were there for a late lunch). The bartender did show up a few minutes later, and apologized for the wait. I would describe the food as ok - but nothing to write home about. I ordered the fish sandwich with lima beans. I didn't really care for the seasonings in the beans. My husband ordered the chopped brisket po boy sandwich with french fries. The chopped brisket was more like pulled brisket. The taste was fine for both meals - but this isn't a place I'd make a special trip to.
My husband is a huge BBQ guy and during a stay in Asheville he was eager to visit Buxton. We had a great experience. What a cool building! Loved the history. They were out of the brisket, unfortunately. But we enjoyed everything we had.
I've been wanting to go to Buxton Hall Barbecue for a long time. I had the Whole Hog plate. The BBQ meat was excellent the sides were ok.
I had pulled pork plate with sides of collard greens and bbq beans. Wife had Smoky Fried Catfish. Hush puppies were good, but house tartar sauce was great. She enjoyed the fish but wasn’t fond of the slaw, which I loved. Slaw is VERY subjective lol. My bbq had some smoke but wasn’t as moist as it could be…good but not great. Sauces were very good however. Bbq beans were very good and collard greens outshone everything in my meal! They were awesome! Overall, a very good meal at a reasonable price. Atmosphere is good as well and our service was great!
Great bbq. Delicious. No frills place. Old factory building that has been redone. Original hardwood floors. But best bbq. Wife had turkey bbq sandwich. Very moist meat, huge sandwich. Great coleslaw. I had the pork bbq sandwich. Huge. Delicious. Hard to finish. Get there early. Big waiting line when we were leaving. Yummy
