You get to stand outside while they look for your reservation. Once justified, they take you either to the 1st floor room, or lead you up a dark, hot, dirty staircase to the hot upstairs room. The food is ok, but if you want the “special” you need to order early, as they ran out before the sun set. Management was nowhere to be found. Nice server, but completely underwhelming experience, especially considering the price.
We had the steak and pomme frites which was wonderful along with the french onion soup. The restaurant team was wonderful. They have an expansive wine list. Great place to eat and definitely a treat!
We were looking forward to dining here, not just because of the reviews but because friends had recommended it. The atmosphere was good, very "bistroish" and the service was friendly and good, if slow. My wife ordered escargot followed by quiche, I had the two pates and the the chicken cordon blue. The food took an inordinate amount of time to arrive. Our waitress apologized and explained that the kitchen "mixed up the tickets". It's hard to mess up escargot, but serve them in a ceramic escargot dish instead of shells and cover each one with soggy puff pastry and you've made a good start. Luckily the snails themselves were OK. Her quiche was very good on the second try. The first piece brought to the table had an inedible charred crust. My pates varied in quality. The duck liver one was quite good, but barely more than a large thimbleful. The country style one was a thin, dry slice with very little flavor. It did not compare favorably with what I can buy at our nearby Wegman's supermarket's cheese counter. The chicken cordon blue was tough and chewy, the meat and cheese found only in the middle section. The frites were very good. Our wine was good and fairly priced. We were traveling for about 12 days and a pattern of either bad service, substandard food or both was a near constant theme. A restaurateur friend of my son in Savannah blames it on Covid and the difficult of finding staff, especially chefs and cooks. We would try Bouchon again if and when the Covid crisis finally is past us..
We enjoyed our meal but I have to say it wasn't special. The service was good. We were very disappointed and surprised to hear 1970s music, which we love, but we had been expecting charming French music and without that it really changed the atmosphere and not for the better.
Sooooooo good!!! First time there and the food was amazing! Drinks were awesome! Server was very sweet and attentive. Would definitely go back! Make sure you have a reservation though or you won't be likely to get in. It'll be worth it though!
Food, ambience and service were great! Reminded us of favorite Parisian bistros. Start with the pate. The duck and the gnocci were wonderful. French comfort food indeed.
Cute French bistro in downtown Asheville! We booked on Resy and arrived a bit early, and were seated on an indoor/outdoor terrace with a garden view. Delicious cocktails, house rose, beet salad, lobster ravioli, addictive truffle fries and fabulous chocolate mousse!
My family and I visited Bouchon to seek a kind, elegant environment, and that was exactly what we got. We started with Assiette de Deux Pâtés Maison two different kinds of pâtés sided with flavors that sooth the taste of the pâtés. We also had Le Canard a l'Orange Chocolate, which had a very kind sweet that enriched the flavor of the duck. The Trout had almonds that gave the dish a fantastic texture, but it lacked a fresher aspect and taste.
Major disappointment. We were looking forward to Bouchon as recommended by many guide books. Salmon entree was mediocre and steak dish had flat taste. Frites were amazing and over served.
Bouchon is located in downtown Asheville near shops, craft beer establishments, and other restaurants, but this restaurant stands above the others. We had their escargot, salmon, duck, and creme brulee. The duck portion was quite large. All were excellent. The staff was friendly and the astmosphere is reminencent of a Parisian brasserie.
