Cons: Pulled pork and coleslaw was on par with Cook Out’s. Corn bread was underwhelming: dry, crumbly, and reminded me of high school cafeteria cornbread. Social distancing is still a thing here.Pro: they had interesting soda choices.Finished my pulled pork combo and was still hungry. Conclusion: Not bad, but mediocre at best. As evidenced by the place being almost empty at 1pm.
I loved the pulled pork sandwich with slaw and Alabama white sauce. Where I'm from, (Shelby NC) the BBQ is the best in the World, but I give this a 5 star rating. It was different, maybe why I loved it so much. My family will be back. We just stumbled upon this little gem, as we were looking for gems (Gem mines). ?
Initial impression from the outside was not positive, leaves all over the outside seating area. Barely in the door and was told to put my mask on which was in my hand. Then I immediately see an employee behind the counter preparing meals without a mask.Ordered a sampler plate with sausage (homemade), chicken, pulled pork. Sausage was good but the skin was tough. Chicken wasn’t fresh tasting or remarkable, pulled pork was the best but not hot. The side of stew was probably the best thing I had, nice and tasty. Overall, the experience was far from memorable and left me disappointed.
If you're visiting town for a kids soccer game and have hungry teenagers then I'd very highly suggest this place. All 4 of us left happy . Local SB, is great BBQ. I ordered pulled Chicken burger with broccoli cheese side and they accidentally brought it with green beans as well and those were very crunchy and fresh. We also ordered stew, pulled pork BBQ burgers and main cheese. The whole experience was very good. Definately will be back. Rr was clean.
What a gem. Grateful that East Asheville has such a sweet spot. Food is delicious. Unpretentious yet unique. Awesome sides. Fantastic Vegan and Vegetarian options!
DELICIOUS!!! I can’t say enough good things about AJ and his team over at Black Bear BBQ! Hands down BEST BBQ in Asheville NC. They were our first choice to cater our wedding reception and we couldn’t be happier that they were available. Top notch, professional, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. Our guest ALL RAVED about the food and I still get complements on how amazing our wedding reception dinner was. Thanks again AJ you knocked it out of the park!
If you're looking for an intimate and unique dining experience, Black Bear's owner is the man to call. In addition to their BBQ storefront, Black Bear's AJ also can provide you and your party with a special night of dining in the comforts of your own home or vacation spot in and around Asheville. This multi-course live fire dinner was tailored to our specifications and was absolutely one of the (if not THE) best meals my party has ever had. The use of actual open fire and wood in the preparation of the meal gives each course unexpected flavors. Not only are you served high quality food throughout this meal, but you are provided a total experience. 10/10 would hire AJ and his team again and looking forward to the next time I can do so.
They were out of a bunch of stuff which was unfortunate. But none the less the food was pretty good and the lovely ladies there were super friendly.
Pretty good bbq. Nothing extraordinary but definitely a tasty pulled pork sandwich. Mac a cheese and beans were okay. Reasonably priced 13$ plate
Not impressed. At noon on Saturday the bread was stale and they were out of the daily special vegetable. Pulled pork ok but not great. They were very careful about Covid protocol.
