I was disappointed that I couldn’t have sushi because they were out of sushi rice. I had to have the habachi. It was ok. I recommend this place because it’s the only place around that I found appealing. The service was great.
Fast and Most Excellent Food!!!
More like 2.5 stars. It wasn’t awful, but a solid C-We chose this place as it was a short distance & one of the only restaurants in this category with no mention of cockroaches in the reviews.Sad but true statement. The menu was not extensive. There was a one hour wait for sushi, even dine in. This was dinner time on a weekend, for context. Since there were 12 people dining in, it must be take out orders. No ambience inside -we’d seen the photos and didn’t expect much.We opted for hibachi.Started with the greasiest egg roll ever.Green tea was tasteless.Miso’s main ingredient was scummy liquid.Hibachi portion was large, mainly zucchini.I paid extra for ‘ok’ noodles over rice.Scallops and veggies were good, but scallop/ steak combo was heavy on steak, light on scallops. My steak tasted- not off or rancid, but definitely elderly, with a strong fridge flavor. One bite of that was enough. The service was good but didn’t check back once we got our main courses (probably had tried the steak)For the standard, it was overpriced. Been to a lot better restaurants elsewhere for the same cost or less. The whole experience wasn’t terrible, just lacklustre. We’ll try every other bug free sushi & Japanese restaurant in a 50 mile radius before returning here & then - just to try the sushi.
Excellent food and service! Don’t be deterred by their exterior ! This Yamato’s throws down!!!!
Based off of the positive reviews, I wanted to give this place a try and support a local business. We went on Mother's day with our 5-year old and 3 year-old at 5 PM, and the restaurant was not busy but they must have had a lot of carryout orders because the staff seemed flustered. After we ordered an appetizer and our meals, the server came back to let me know they were out of miso soup so I was getting clear soup instead. That was perfectly fine. Then about 40 minutes after we odered, the server told us the sushi chef was backed up (which confused me because the restaurant was not full) and it would be about 15-20 minutes for our food. I told her that was fine but we couldn't wait much longer because of the kids. Then I ordered a glass of white wine and they were out of that too.By 6:35, we still didn't have our food. We ended up getting our food to go and taking the kids to McDonalds. Luckily we had snacks and tablets for our kids, but overall it was just a poor and stressful experience. The server was very apologetic but the restaurant needs to figure out how to handle the in-person and carry-out business at the same time and make sure they are stocked up on menu items for the weekend.Right now, we are not sure we will go back. The food was just ok and not worth the 1 hour and 35 minute wait to later eat at home.
Saw reviews and had been wanting to try this place for a while! Finally did last night and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is cute and really good! I have no idea why ppl would say it was not. Anyhow, service was very fast too! We got sushi and steak hibachi. So good . No leftovers! I look forward to coming back!!
If you’re African American, expect to be seated in the back, even when there is ample seating in the front. I’ve been there twice, with 2 different sets of friends, and both times we were seated in the back, closest to the rest room. During my visit today, a plus size African American man was seated across from me in the back. Not cool at all. And yes, there was ample seating in the front.
We had a really nice server I can’t remember her name. The food was decent. What was horrible about this place is the parents yelling at their kids for just being kids. It was distracting and sad to hear parents be so mean to their children. Not the restaurants fault but seems like that’s the type of families that eat here.
I finally went to this place last week and am already back the next. It is fantastic. I have driven by it 100 times and never stopped - that is a mistake. This is one of the best restaurants in Apex.HIGHLIGHTS:- They have really great prices. This allows you to keep coming back instead of making it a once in a while thing. Check out the lunch menu, you literally cannot find a better deal in town.- Great portion sizes.- Fantastic flavors and everything tastes really fresh. Flavors are soooo good. The meat was SUPER moist which was surprising because most of the time hibachi meat is really dry from overcooking.Things I've tried:-Hibachi chicken & steak w/ rice, zucchini & onion (be sure to get ginger and seafood/white sauce)-Yaki chicken w/ rice, zucchini and onion-Chicken katsu w/ soba noodles and cabbageFinal Notes:The hibachi and Yaki were absolutely great, but the chicken katsu is next level. I highly recommend subbing out the rice on this dish for the soba noodles, and choosing a side of cabbage. You will not regret this arrangement. It comes with seafood sauce for dipping and it is A++++. I haven't tried the carrots as side but the zucchini and onions are amazing with such good flavor and great portion size. For hibachi and yaki I recommend doing rice with zucchini and onions, but with the katsu, I highly recommend cabbage and soba noodles.
We had sushi and shrimp dinners. So much food we took some home and had lunch the next day. The food is always delicious and freshly made. It's nice to get good quality Japanese food at a reasonable price. You don't have to pay for a show at Yamato just good food and service.
