I used to be a regular here. I walked out and have not been back since twice being treated horribly by the hostess (older w/ glasses, I believe she is family as she made it a point to say so).The last time, and the final time I will step foot in there, I tried sitting at the counter as I always did. This was on a weekday, early, when there were maybe two or three tables taken. Well, the hostess flipped out. Granted I did seat myself but it was damn near empty and I sat at the counter. Never should a customer be berated. The hostess was gate keeping big time going on a tirade and saying how she needed to seat me herself for this reason and that reason. When I decided to walk out she continued to have words for me. She should be fired or not allowed to work with customers. Went here for years and never again.
Ordered home fryers and I got hard boiled cubes potatoes half cooked the first time, the second time they gave me deep fried cubes of potatoes and told me those were home fryers, I had them there many times before never had a problem, I had it with Castlewood Cafe!!! No more
Ate at Castlewood today, lunch with friends. Only waited a few minutes right at noon, they were very busy. We all ordered different meals, some from breakfast menu, some from regular menu. We had time to visit while waiting for our meal. Very enjoyable. I had the turtle stuffed French toast and it was like a huge dessert. Yummy! The Reubens sandwiches looked amazing with a lot of meat. I used to go there on occasion but hadn't been in years. Was totally satisfied.
Bad experience from start to finishThe minute you opened the door there was this stale fish odor. The place was not all busy yet they sat us all the way in the back by the restrooms (there was only four of us) . Slow service. Mediocre food and even the cashier had an attitude problem as she cashed each of us out. I dropped my change as she handed it to me and she let out a discussed sigh. First and last time we will go there
Excellent food and service, friendly attentive staff. Florida Waffles were delicious!
I had my first and last experience here this Easter. Other than the obnoxious bit about having to wait until the whole party arrived to be seated, it was also the first time in my life where an entire buffet was awful. On the upside, the bacon and waffles were decent. The real highlight was leaving, except getting bubble guts that immediately followed.
Food is excellent. Had an odd experience yesterday though where we weren't given enough silverware, no one came to check on us (I had to eat my omelette with a spoon lol), no one offered to refill coffee, and no offer for containers to take anything home. Normally the service is really good so hoping this was just an off day for the server.
Absolutely favorite hometown restaurant. Must go every time we visit our daughter at University. Huge menu just about anything you're in there mood for. Seafood, Italian to burgers. I don't know how they could have so many offerings.Unique specialty sandwiches and more. Then if you have the chance to get there for breakfast, just as phenomenal. We cannot make a trip to Utica without stopping. What a wonderful find! (Bananas foster french toast)
Wife pulled off the road to make a phone call, Castlewood was right in front of us. So I said let's go eat there. Caught them an hour before closing, they close at 3 on Mondays. Real good service, good food, I especially liked the Macaroni and cheese balls. A little bit pricey but I'm still not adjusting to this year's inflation. Will be going again.
The staff is extremely friendly and the food was excellent. They are a busy little place, the downside to that is the wait for service is a bit longer than normal. Well worth it though, it took awhile to get our check, but I didn't mind too much. If you have never been here give this place a try, would definitely recommend?
