I have a lot of health code concerns. The way food is served and prepared, both from what I experienced and what they willingly post on social media is very concerning. It also concerns me they seem to only care about a specific type of queer- as shown with their thrift shop and the sizes they accept, not the most inclusive for a place that claims to be. They dance around it when questioned or simply ignore it (see the concern about the dog in another google review). They had the entire community donate their money, time, and services like construction. While it’s a wonderful thing that the community banded together to help, it’s not a survivable business model. The news article said they don’t have any restaurant or management experience. The way they outlined the pay for the chef is not only way too low for the skills they are asking, (it doesn’t matter what the business is, your people deserved to be paid for their skills and talents ) they also have a weird formula to pay them in equity so they don’t actually have to pay them even those low wages. While this concept is wonderful, I fear everyone’s actions are going to be in vain. Luckily by getting loans donated they won’t be on the hook to payback. Good for them. Not so great for those that helped.
I just enjoyed the Curry Chickpea Salad Sandwich which was a tasty mix of curry (not too strong) with the delicate texture of chickpeas adorned with butter lettuce atop crusty bread. I will definitely get it again, but will probably opt for the lettuce wrap next time and request a fork to pick up every last morsel of the salad that came loose from the sandwich. I was offered a lavender latte which I happily accepted, iced with oatmilk. It was the perfect blend of creamy, dreamy, and sweet. Well done, Brett, and kudos to everyone involved in making this cafe happen!
Charging more money to people who don’t fit there ideal customer. Wow. Understand the idea but not a fan of this liberal concept. Everyone should be treated equal.
Whether you’re LGBTQ or not this is the must check out Vegan/Veg/GF spot in Troy! I had a delicious breakfast and wonderful conversation with Atsushi! Please give this cafe a visit! Coffee, pastries, muffins, burritos you name it! Trans owned and proud!They/them
I have been to some of their soft opening events and the food is great. What's even better is the mission behind the business. It is one of the many reasons that Troy, NY is amazing!
I came in for a simple cup of coffee and I had a delightful experience. The decor was cute and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I felt instantly at ease seeing patrons and staff exhibiting a wide array of gender expressions and personal styles. The cafe was lively on a Saturday afternoon, but not crowded. I felt really cared for with staff checking in on me and even offering me a free vegan mango smoothie! (try it- it's amazing!). I saw some very tempting plates of food being brought around and wonderful smells coming from the kitchen. I'll definitely be back to try out their brunch menu.
We really had a great experience trying this place during the soft opening. The staff was so kind and welcoming and the tacos were amazing! I’m really looking forward to going back and trying the whole menu. The staff seem to be working hard to make this place great and I hope the community is here to support them in that!
I've been following Café Euphoria since last year. I'm happy they've soft launched and can't wait to taste the food after the grand opening!
I was debating posting this but considering how new the cafe is, a lot of things need to change if they are to survive. The long and short of it is they lack the experience and are trying to do too many things. They need to narrow their focus because you cannot be a restaurant, cafe, thrift store, and community hub all at once. Especially when you lack restaurant experience.I came here for an event with a bunch of my friends. We paid for our food (10-20-30 sliding scale for dessert, a quesadilla, and chips/dip). I requested no dairy on mine and I didn't realize that was the most I could request; nobody could place any orders. The event was downstairs, where we sat in what appeared to be a disorganized conference room. There was an open closet with papers and boxes and other msc things. For name tags, there were postit notes that didn't even stay on your shirt. As the night rolled on it seemed apparent the hosts didn't really have much planned for this; there were no activities or things to do other than talk, which makes it hard to break the ice. When they started bringing down the main course, everyone's food was lukewarm and it was clear after two or three plates that nobody had actually "ordered" their food, they just brought down what was made. Towards the end of the night the host came down and said if you had yet to be served (almost two hours in!) That you could go up and order one based on the ingredients available. Ingredients available were not worth what we paid for; pre-shredded cheese, canned mushrooms, canned refried beans. Seriously? Chipotle is a TERRIBLE company but I could have gotten fresher ingredients from them for less than 10$ at minimum! They also said there was dip and chips but they were keeping it upstairs because the people upstairs were eating it (there was less of them upstairs and they weren't even here for the event).Additionally, many doors were unlocked that should not have been. There was a door in the bathroom to an unfinished space with insulation just on the ground. The door to the basement was unlocked. There weren't signs to show you where the bathroom was and the bathroom was filthy. Everything looked so unfinished but they claimed to be "open", just by reservation only. There is a lot of work that needs to be done before they live up to what they want to be. I was really disappointed. And as much as I loved the dog, don't have a dog in a room with an open kitchen. Especially if that dog is a long coated breed.
Cafe Euphoria is a queer and trans friendly space that is currently soft opening on weekends. The owners told us they are opening it on weekdays later in spring. The cafe is very welcoming in terms of both people and decor. The pricing is on a sliding scale. We tried the gallette pastries and they were lovely! The lattes are great too. Cafe Euphoria also has thrift sections! We are excited to return!
