Hey folks, listen I've been in Rochester over 20 years now and have visited Nick Tahou's twice. Now I know the history and have heard many times how great it use to be but it seems like it's fallen on hard times. Their specialty us the garbage plate and it looks great, but the other items I was left disappointed (/burger with no options of lettuce or tomato for one). Still won't give up on this landmark establishment but someone there needs to set in, set up and show out!!
Love Nick Tahou's. Had never heard of a garbage plate before going there. Didn't think I'd be able to eat one but I had no problem! Great combination of flavors and nice to have it the way you want. Definitely worth the trip.
First time visiting "the original" home of the garbage plate - boy did I miss that scrumptious garbage plate combos that I remembered getting at 3AM after a college night on the town.As others mentioned, place is run down which we didn't mind one bit, almost feels like nostalgia. Staff was overly friendly and we felt so welcomed!!I enjoyed my plate, definitely felt like it was missing something though but couldn't put my finger on it (I did end up adding ketchup to it too). The macaroni salad was AMAZING, my favorite part for sure. My guest who had never had a plate before was less than thrilled. He thought the burgers were very overcooked and lacked in flavor. Sadly his favorite part was the bread served with it.Would go back again.
Friendly staff and great prices. I didn't think I would like a garage plate but had the white hot plate and was very good.
This is a Rochester classic that I highly recommend. Everything on the plate was delicious, especially the macaroni salad, meat sauce, and home fries. It was well worth the trip.
Stop n my way home and never again. Customer service was very friendly but for the same amount I paid here I could go elsewhere and get more food hotter and more meat sauce. I know times are though but geez u want to keep customers make your plates look like something you would be proud of not just thrown together. Had my food in less then 2 mins did it even get heated up? Think twice about stopping here not the same as it used to be as kids. So sad
New to the area and I had heard about the famous garbage plate. It’s actually good ninjas the original. Restaurant was clean the service was good fast and the plate was excellent. Free refills on drinks I don’t know exactly how to describe the garbage plate. I had the most popular burger variant which was cheeseburgers home fries mac cheese and chili all piled together. It’s not open late. Only until 7 on Saturdays but if you can it’s really taste comfort food.
The inside of the building looks like the set out of Saw, the food looks like its out of a college dorm room after a frat party. This is a classic American spot that people from all over come to enjoy. There were people in suits and coveralls standing side by side to get a "gahbage plate".The flavor is here and it makes sense why locals have kept this place alive for 80+ years
I am in from Tennessee visiting my girlfriend who is a local, her and the rest of her family said that I had to try the famous Rochester Garbage Plate, So we went to the place that started it all Nick Tahou Hots. Both me and my girlfriend had the Cheeseburger plate and I am completely real when I say I never knew I needed something this awesome in my life! I devoured that plate and was contemplating getting a second! This has made me a believer in the greatness of The Rochester Garbage Plate and in Nick Tahou! I think I found my new favorite thing to eat!
I don’t want to say I stayed over night in Rochester to try a garbage plate here, but it was definitely a catalyst. I loved it and I loved the authenticity of the location. Eat the original, not the imitators riding on their innovation.
