Outstanding, authentic, and reasonably priced Italian dishes with a nice albeit limited (still off the wine list) selection of red wines in a comfortable setting/ambiance.
1st time here and it was a great experience. Walked in on a Sunday at dinner time and didn't have to wait for a table for 3, although it was fairly busy (good for them!). Menu was simple and had a good amount of options, portions were huge and prices were reasonable. We were at just under $100 for 2 appetizers and 3 entrees with salads/soups on the side (the egg drop soup seemed out of place, but it was phenomenal) and waters/lemonades. All 3 of us were full between the bread and apps and ended up taking the majority of our food home in to-go boxes (which were nice, reusable glad containers). The waitress kept thanking us for waiting patiently, but honestly service was fairly quick. We were in and out in about an hour and it was basically 4 courses (bread/drinks, apps, salads, entrees) so we were busy eating and chatting. Had to run to catch a movie, but the desserts we saw getting brought out looked amazing too. Will definitely be back.
March 26, 2022 visit:Their delicious food was even better than our amazing server.May 24, 2022 visit:Our server and the food were (still) phenomenal, but I was tempted to down-grade from 5 to 4 stars for the woman bringing food to most tables. She was efficient ... but with absolutely no courtesy to what seemed like any customers, walking away so fast that we couldn't tell her something was wrong with our piatti. And dessert, my canolo almost rolled off the plate when she slung it down. Great food, but please do better here.
Mama G's had a sign that said they were struggling with a staff shortage. This seemed evident as getting seated was a bit of a kerfuffle. After that everything was amazing. Despite the place being packed (on a Wednesday) our service was quick. The staff was attentive. The food was very well done home made Italian food. Nothing fancy, simple dishes done perfectly.
This non-pretentious Italian restaurant is just what you want if you're looking for good food and friendly service. Rather than specialize in one regional Italian cuisine, Mama G's serves dishes from all of Italy. Mama G's has the feel of a "red-sauce" Italian restaurant, but there are many unusual dishes. The menu lists some very creative and unusual dishes In fact, some dishes were items of which I'd never heard. There's another gem at Mama G's--the server Tricia. She is a gem--professional and friendly. Reservations are a must at Mama G's. When you call, ask to be at Tricia's table.
It was Mother's Day. My family wanted to take me out for dinner. Unfortunately, they forgot to make reservations and every place was booked. We saw Mamma G's was open and they seated us right away. We were very comfortable and did not feel rushed. Our attendee was friendly and very attentive. We were very impressed with the menu! There was even fare for the Vegans in our family. The food tasted exquisite! The pasta was homemade. Everything was seasoned perfectly. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was so crisp and delicious we ordered a second bottle. Thank you Mamma G's for the wonderful dining experience. I'm sure we will return!
Wonderful food - my favorite dish is the timballo - but also great service and a kind staff.
What a gem! Family owned Italian food. Homemade pasta, great service. And a salad included with a dinner! Great wine selection. Not a lot of atmosphere, wishing the walls weren’t pink…but everything else makes up for it ! Make a Reservation!
Hearty Italian meals are served here for a reasonable price. The pasta is homemade and the serving sizes are huge. Plan to leave with another's meals worth of food. We got the beef braciole, gnocchi, Alfredo, and Italian toast. All was very satisfying.
Some of the best Italian food you'll ever have! Huge, delicious portions of homemade recipes, you'll want to try everything on the menu. The owners are gracious, service is excellent, and while the space itself is pretty humble, the food will make you want to come back again and again. A hidden gem in Rochester's food scene.
