We went with friends to celebrate a birthday last night. We all had something different. The menu is so extensive and varied; its hard to decide what to get.Starting with the warm bread basket...didnt even need butter. We all had something different. We had the Chicken Parm, Marinated Burger, Lobster Bisque, 3 course Stuffed Flounder Special and the Sauerbraten 3 Course Special. Everyone raved. The one who had the Sauerbraten said she felt like her Grandmother was there with her. The drinks were tasty and our waitress Mary was superb ! She made our birthday celebration so much fun ! Check out the memorabilia . Do yourself a favor, go to the Birchwood ! A tried and true comfortable place. Unpretentious, friendly, accommodating, great food, excellent staff. Five stars !!
First time there tonight. What a wonderful place. Yes it's a bit loud and yes it's got an old time tavern vibe but hey that's half the charm of this great restaurant. Once Long Island duck was world famous. This place could bring that fame back. We all had crispy roasted duck in cherry sauce. It was superb to say the least and at $24 well worth it. The perogie appetizers were fresh homemade authentic Polish comfort food. For 3 people with 2 beers 3 duck dinners the appetizer dessert and Frangelico shots all came out to $133.00. We will be back next time we're up this way. If your in the riverhead area don't miss this place.

The Birchwood is a staple of Polish Town and it has been decades since I last ate there. My loss. The food and service was excellent as were the drinks. You have to go in to see the wooden phone booth which is referred to as the 'Confessional'. The bartender has the prettiest smile and the customers at the bar were all friendly. All four of our party loved their meals.
OMG... ALMOST 20 ON A SCALE OF 10... TOTAL HOME RUN... EVERYTHING FROM THE MINUTE I WALKED IN... MARGIE BEHIND THE BAR... PERFECT SERVICE... SUPERB FOOD... TOTAL HOME RUN FULL DINNER FROM APPETIZER TO DESSERT... AND I LEFT WITH BOTH ARMS... BEST DINING EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD IN AGES... AND I'VE HAD SOME VERY GOOD ONES... BIRCHWOOD GETS AN A+ PLUS... DEFINITELY WILL BE GOING THERE AGAIN !!!
While the food and service was fine, it was disappointing to find that we were charged for a refill on a soda from the fountain. No restaurant that I have dined at does that. We paid the bill, tipped over20% and very doubtful of returning.
Quaint old time pub. Nostalgic decor which I love. Cozy booths...comfort food...hard working waitresses, girl bartender (great decaf Irish coffee and Cosmo!)and one waiter when we were there....most servers anywhere, god bless you...and yeah! I'm Polish too !!
