There are quite a few bagel places in Astoria, but Toast & Roast was my go to when I lived there. The bagels are as good as any in the neighborhood, and despite not having as wide an offering as other places, still more than enough choice and always fresh.Toast & Roast also has better coffee than the other bagel places in Astoria, and my kids love their hot chocolate and apple cider (iced in the summer, warm in the winter.)Breakfast platters (eggs, home fries, pancakes, bacon, sausage, etc.) was exactly what you would expect. Not gourmet, but that isn't what you're going to T&R for.Sandwiches were also exactly what you would expect.A few times I got their premade salads to have later in the day and was never disappointed. Like the bagels, they were tasty and a good size for the price. And the last reason for my 5 star review: the service. Competent and friendly. Really all you need when you're getting a bagel, sandwich or salad.
This breakfast we had, was awsome! The bagels really nailed it, there were so good. Friendly customer service as well and on top a good coffee. We enjoyed it!
Toast & Roast Bagels and Coffee is just awesome! Great friendly customer service topped with great bagels, spreads, and blueberry pancakes! I ordered the works last Sunday to be delivered to my door over easy eggs tater tots with blueberry pancakes! I got a call to make sure my order was accurate and asked if I wanted butter and syrup! It’s that extra step that got me. My Sunday breakfast came quickly and hot packed to make sure it it! I walked over to pick up bagels for my church breakfast again awesome in person service a smile from start to end. Love this place and 5 stars all the way! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We live around the corner and order frequently from Toast & Roast. The quality is the best out of all the local spots and everything ordered is very good. Sometimes if I order a flat bagel they may substitute a regular bagel in the same flavor, which at $1.20 more for a flat bagel, it would be nice to have that change refunded in the price. Honestly, happens once every dozen times or so, so it’s not always happening. Otherwise, their breakfast burrito, especially the salsa that comes with it, is absolutely incredible. Pancakes are great! Lunch options are also very, very good. Highly recommend.
Great bagels, huge array of schmeres and the soup is also amazing. Service is courteous and speedy and the coffee It's very good as well. I come for the food but I always stay for the fantastic soundtrack Of soul and blues classics.
The MOST delicious coffee drinks! AND the MOST delicious bagels! I had an egg sandwich on an everything bagel and every ingredient was perfectly fresh and well prepared. I could not have asked for a better breakfast!
One of my neighborhood faves! Excellent bagels, muffins and sandwiches. Delivery is always on time and they get everything just right.
Stopped coming as they HARDLY put butter on bagels! I always need to remind them by saying EXTRA butter just so i can get a normal buttered bagel. Every other bagel place I patronize in the neighborhood has no problem knowing how to serve a bagel with butter....maybe they need to teach their workers how to put butter on bagels.??♀️ It’s a shame cause Toast and Roast Bagels are really good. I’m sure I’m not the only one with this complaint.
I give 5 stars to the staff, 0 the owner. They are extremely understaffed for how busy they appear to be. Two guys (sometimes 3) racing around trying to keep up. No cashier. Same guys handling the food handle money. Disgusting. The staff is so hardworking and attentive, I feel bad for them. Payroll is expensive, and I understand they may have a lot of overhead, BUT if you have happy customers each employee can earn up to 2 times their salary in business. There is no owner or manager present. If you can't afford more staff, or if there is a staff shortage, shouldn't the owner be there helping? Unhappy customers (like myself) will just go somewhere else. There is so much competition comparably priced; why would I wait 20 minutes for my order (to the point where the smell of the griddle leaches into my clothes). I don't want to hurt anyone, so I will delete this review after I have hopefully gotten the owner's attention.
I was a loyal customer of this business (ordered almost every weekend) until they showed no sense of urgency or care when something went wrong. I spent over $30 of hard earned money on an breakfast platter and coffee. When you spend that much on a breakfast you expect it to come correct. They forgot the sauce, ok I understand this happens but when I called them they said they would send it it took over 30 mins to come. Starving sitting in front of my food for over a half an hour waiting for them to deliver a small cup of sauce? They just don’t care. If you order from here I recommend calling every single time to make sure they don’t forget anything on your order. It will save you an hour of overall wait time. There is plenty of other great cafes in Astoria to order from. I will give my loyalty to one that respects my time.
