My mom wanted to try Nigeran food so I Google it! Lol. This place was friendly and the food was great! I forgot to take pics, sorry next time. I had the vegetarian plate and like other people said the broccoli was spot on so good. I had a watermelon drink. I never ordered from them before and my mom wanted to try the bread you dip in your food called Iyan, they explained which one we may like as our first time, is called pounced yam. Yuca fried were great. Definitely recommend!
Delicious, well seasoned egusi stew with a side of 2 chicken legs that were fall off the bone tender. The owner was so thorough in answering my questions about starch options, explaining exactly which part the grain/tuber was used, flavor profiles, and recommended stew pairings. I went with the pounded yam.Portion size is enough for one big meal or two smaller meals.Small outdoor dining area, can also order the food to-go and eat on the beach boardwalk.
You can tell the food is made with care and love. Egusi Soup and Efo Riro and my top tips especially if you like a little spice. One of my fave places to eat in Rockaway!
Had delicious hot fufu with beef efo riro stew that fell apart in the mouth, followed by puff puffs doused in powdered sugar. So, so good after a long day on the boardwalk. Wish they had a branch in Manhattan!
Love this place. The Efro Riro and Egusi are the tasties treats on the peninsula. Check if they are open before swinging by. The food will leave you smiling.
Real West African food in the Rockaways! Food was fresh and tasty.I watched the chef make my okra from scratch and it came out perfect The owner told me he was working on adding a few more vegan options.
Amazing chicken stew and jollaf rice! Hibiscus iced tea was delicious and had bits of fresh pineapple ?
My favorite spot in the city ?
Best broccoli I ever ate - and I’ve been vegetarian most of my life. The Vegan Nigerian Jollof with flavorful rice and kale is incredible. The fresh Hibiscus Zobo Juice with pineapples, too. I’m sure all tastes delicious.I have been coming back every time when on The Rockaways. Relaxed atmosphere with tasteful decoration. Super friendly owner. Wishing them all the best and success!
My first jollof rice was pretty damn tasty. I was on a little tasting tour of Rockaway and The Cradle was on my list to try. We got the chicken with jollof rice, plantains, and broccoli. What a fab little lunch that wouldn't typically get to try at the beach! I have to try to make the rice at home. I couldn't tell if the plantains were meant to be sweet or savory since they seemed in between. I look forward to going back and trying more of the food next time.
