First time here. This place didn’t disappoint. Cocktails were really good and classy - well made. Great vibes and awesome at night. Had the Glass Negroni and The Monarch. Glass Negroni was new for me, The Monarch was awesome.
The food was awful. Really. Awful. The bacon on my husband’s burger was beyond limp. I am no chef, but I believe that bacon shouldn’t be wet or slimy. The “ hand cut fries” were so oily and limp that it made the bacon appear cooked. I’ve never had such a bad fry before. I order a really bad, cauliflower al pastor quesadilla. It tasted like it had been marinated in Robitussin. Service was fine, place looks nice but avoid the food at all costs. And it’s really surprising, since their sister restaurant, The Bonnie is pretty good.
I love this place so much. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere and music. Highly recommend coming for dinner or drinks.
Lacey and Chloe are the absolute best hostesses! They adjusted our booking and were beyond friendly, fitting us in and providing amazing drinks tailored to what we asked for. The menu is extensive and tasty as hell.
The service is very good and my waitress was very friendly and had a good attitude. It is a nice and clean place. But the food... ummm... leaves a lot to be desired, for that price I have tried hamburgers of excellent quality and good flavor. My burger was completely plain and tasted like nothing. I also ordered the steak, not a big deal, lack of flavor. It is a nice place but somewhat overpriced for what they offer.
I used to go to sweet Afton two or three times a week for dinner back when it first opened. A few years ago it was sold to new ownership and management. The ambience remained the same but the food quality dropped significantly. I LIVED for the burger back then, now not so much. The Mac and cheese which was the best in Astoria is now a bowl of liquid cheese without the original texture. And bland. Staff is always very friendly and kind and that’s always brought me back. I wish the new owners would go back to basics with the food and not cut corners. You know the food you inherited.
I came in for brunch and had a terrible experience with our server. We were seated at 1pm and our server didn’t come over to take our drink order until 30 minutes later. She left before we could even order our food, which we had clearly wanted to do. She finally returned to take our food order about 15-20 minutes later. When my friend ordered an appetizer and main course, she said “you want both?” in the most condescending tone, as if it was ridiculous a person could eat both an appetizer and main course. She was overall rude and unpleasant to interact with. I can understand that things can be busy, but to be ignored and then treated this way was pretty upsetting. I wrote to Sweet Afton on instagram about this experience with no response. After that, I found out they tried to charge my friends credit card for $3000 after already charging the meal. All around very strange and terrible experience. Will not ever return.
Great experience my only complaint which I feel is fair is that they charge $15 for a burger NO FRIES ?????!!!! …. Other than that great neighborhood place I’ll always come back for late night drinks. But charging that much for an alright burger makes sense nowhere in New York… you pay over $20 for a simple burger and fries… how sway?!?
As an Astorian, I have been coming to Sweet Afton for many years now, specifically for drinks, but more on a sporadic basis. It is a great date night or a friends night out kinda place, with excellent music, attentive service (super hospitable staff), and an amazing vibe! Last Saturday my friend invited me here for brunch, he had tried brunch here previously and said it was delicious. Let’s just say he was right. He was so right to the point that we stopped here for brunch again yesterday - yes the brunch here is that good that I came two weekends in a row! I love the avocado toast: you have the option of adding crumbled bacon or smoked salmon - so yummy! My friend likes their Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich; their fries are also addictive! Aside from the food - their classic margarita on the rocks has me dreaming all week of wanting to return and have some more! Wow ? they use orange biters instead of triple sec, and that truly makes a huge difference in the quality and taste of the margarita! If your are a tequila fan and love margaritas as much as I do, you’ll know what I mean ;) If not, you’ll thank me for turning you on ;) You’re welcome!
Attentive waiter, good drinks and good food. What else do you need from a local bar? Would definitely recommend. I went on a weeknight and they had a live band which was also nice.
