7/27 edit: 4 stars to 3 starsSoup dumplings still good.. hot and sour soup was good but the zha jiang mian, i think they spell it cha qiang mein or something on the apps, it was so watery (the bottom half of the container was water) … its like they added the water that they cooked the noodles with into the dish… first time having watery zha jiang mian and it was not good.. pictures includedSo far the apps are always good.. one entree was ok and one was not goodSoup dumplings were good.. the hot peppers with shredded beef was just ok
I normally pride myself on being an easy going patron but when I first came into Shanghai Zhen Gong Fu, I was pretty moody. (Intense PMS + 3 small kids). Between hormones and yelling children, I was hot and cranky and really not at my best.Bill (our waiter) quickly seated us and offered to sit us directly under the air conditioner and even got a second fan to point at us. It was heaven.I apologized for my mood and thanked him but he told me there was no need to apologize and he was SO happy, funny and kind..and most of all, accommodating! :-)We ordered about 6 different things but ate them so fast I only had a chance to get a picture of a few.The food typically would take longer to come out but we had it at our table within a few minutes. It was awesome.The duck was SO crisp and the meat was all the way good through and my husband and I agreed that this restaurant serves the best Lo Mein and General Tso's chicken we've ever had in our 35+ years of life :-)It was a wonderful experience and amazing food. Our little kids loved everything as well which was a big win.The restrooms were also clean ;-) I always love that. It is a good reflection on the restaurant.We will definitely come back :-) Thanks for the great experience, Bill.
Stumbled upon this place randomly while walking around the neighborhood. Neat find. Service was great - quick and servers were lovely. The restaurant itself also looks very clean and modern. The food was great also - clean-tasting broth and the duck was so good.

Amazingly good! Every dish is freshly made. The Sesame chicken amazing. Large portions of food. You are greeted as soon as you come in. The staff and manager are courteous and friendly. Excellent service. You must try it for yourself. Everyone looks so happy while eating. You are going love it here. One of the best restaurants in the city.
If you are reading this please go eat here!I didn't expect it to be as great as it was and I'm so sorry for underestimating this amazing restaurant.As I walked in I was greeted nicely and seated immediately, she even pulled out my chair for me ( I was eating alone). Then the waitress came over a couple minutes later to take my order. While taking my order she recognized it was my first time and then she recommended the soup dumplings ( first thing under appetizers, thank God she recommended this!) and I got the sesame chicken as well. The food was delicious! I can't wait to bring friends and family here next time!
Great food for a great price! We usually order take out but wanted to try eating in person for once and it did not disappoint. Ordered the crab and pork soup dumplings which were soo good. I also liked their lo mein, beef and broccoli, and the bok choy with mushrooms.
This is your friendly neighborhood Shanghainese restaurant. I came here upon recommendation from a friend who lives nearby. I was pleasantly surprised by the great service of all of the staff, they were friendly and attentive. The soup dumplings here were very good, and much cheaper than in Brooklyn. The sweet and sour fish was cooked very well and very delicious.
I love this place! I'm picky with my Chinese because I like it done right and these wonderful folks here made my night! Definitely a step above your regular Chinese takeout, food has tons of flavor and is made with love! Everything was delicious, wish I knew about this gem sooner!? Definitely worth a try!
