At a glance this place looks like a normal deli, but beyond the hungry customers lies deliciousness. I discovered this spot a couple months ago and have been addicted ever since. I drive in from Brooklyn almost every week for the most delicious deli sandwich I've ever had. The sandwiches are HUGE! Almost like the ones you see in scooby doo. You can easily share with multiple people and they'd even cut it in four if you ask. This place is cash only but they do have an ATM inside if you need. Overall, if you're looking for an amazing sandwich, this is your spot. There's a reason they're called the sandwich king of Astoria.
Best sandwich ever!!! If the line is long, dont worry it moves fast. I always get The Bomb. Cash only.
I had the family in town so we decided to head over to Sal, Kris & Charlie’s today. First, we had to find a parking spot. We asked the owner across the street to use his parking space and he kindly obliged. We told him we were just running into the deli across the street. Not a problem. My niece asked me what was so important about this deli and I told her that Sal. Kris & Charlie’s was one the best known and regarded as one of the finest delis in Astoria. They did not disappoint. From the outside, the deli does not look like it has a lot of history behind it. Just the name stands out. Most who come to Astoria would never know the history behinf this deli, or that one of the owners passed away some years ago! Inside, it looks like any other deli. It is behind the counter that you learn about its past. I immediately asked if they served the bomb/ The bomb consist of thin-sliced salami, ham, turkey, pepperoni, mortadella, provolone cheese and American cheese, topped with lettuce, tomato, peppers, deli mustard, and a pinkish dressing that looks like thousand island. The Italian sandwich is stacked with salami, pepperoni, mortadella, prosciutto, soppressata, sharp provolone, and a schmear of mayo and mustard. How much are they I asked, $14 each I was informed. Right let’s get three of them! One of my family requested a roast beef sandwich on top of that. As I was paying I noticed the souvenir caps. How much are they I asked? $15.00 each. We ended up spending $70 and as you can see in the photos, they took up most of the back seat. At home I unpacked them. They were huge. We were just about able to consume one bomb. The other two we put in the fridge and I immediately noticed that there was not enough room unless we did a little rearranging. Finally, we were able to squeeze the two remaining sandwiches inside. The bombs immediately hit the spot. Apart from the roast beef sandwich, we were just able to finish one off. The employees were fabulous. I asked to meet one of the owners who obliged, Everyone came away happy including my niece who received a cap. We are all still recovering from the sandwich
my oh my this place is rad. got the only vegetarian option on the menu in the egg salad hero ($8.50). there must be like a dozen eggs in that thing—it’s massive. bread has a great sesame kick. service is fast and guys behind the counter are super nice. cash only.
Absolutely massive phenomenal Italian hero with hot and sweet peppers tossed on top. Loads of flavor and easily shared between 2
The was a long line when I went. But there were two people working the counter. So the line went quickly.$14 for the Italian Sub that I bought. After eating one part of the sub, I do not think it is worth it.
The Bomb sandwich is the best satisfying sandwich ever.... taste, size, price is only $14, freshness, flavor, perfect mixed toppings, gradual level of spiciness. I mean.... no enough words to describe it. Just get one, drive from wherever and have the experience. 10 stars!!!!! Fast service and nice people.
By far the BEST sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Everything is super fresh. Great selection of meats, cheeses, toppings. The bread is out of this world. I’m so lucky to live in Astoria & have access to the crave worthy heroes all day long.
The sandwich are large enough to feed 2 people. However to have to pay extra for everything that makes a hero flavorful will run your bill from the actual cost of $10-12 to $20.00. Very pricey
Was there with a few pals to pick up some heros or subs as some people say. They have great semolina sub rolls which is key. All fresh meats and cheeses. Order what ever you like and they will make it. Totally delicious. They move a ton of cold cuts daily so you know its fresh.
