Absolutely horrible customer service. The owner was extremely rude and disrespectful to my friends and I. As my boyfriend and friend were buying coffee, I needed to use the restroom. I am 5 months pregnant and I’m constantly using the restroom. She rudely and in a nasty manner would not let me use the restroom. Mind you, my party were ordering coffee. So we canceled our order and left. She should be ashamed of herself with treating potential customers in that manner. You’re better off going to Martha’s Bakery.
We read some bad reviews about the owner and decided to check this place out ourselves. We hung out with the owner - we invited her to our table and found her to be a very nice, kind and strong person. She has a strong personality yes but why is that a threat? Women can be strong.I don’t get the negative reviews. Perhaps those writing the bad reviews are too sensitive. The coffee and desserts are great. Must try the loukoumades.
The cakes here are astounding. Went two nights in a row for dessert. Both were delicious. Service is slow and indifferent - feel like you’re interrupting them. The coffee was ok but not great. Go for the food.
Excellent Café! I enjoyed the service, the stay and the food. It was quite delightful. The servers were very friendly and attentive in their service. They strived to give my friends and I the greatest service. I liked that. The food was pretty good. I’d visit here again.Street could be an issue. If you search enough, you can find one. I was here over the weekend.
To add to the choir of bad reviews: I went here today, and witnessed the owner be unbelievably/unnecessarily rude & overtly racist to a couple and their adorable son. The coffee and pastries were mediocre and overpriced, and given the character of the owner, I would never come here again.
Where do I start?! Honestly this place has a ton of bad reviews about how mean and salty the owner is. And they couldn’t be more spot on! It turns me on which is why the 5 stars from me. She is an absolute terror of a human and man I love it. Once I was told I can’t order a certain pastry because the old lady said, and I quote “you will make a mess and I don’t want clean after you” and I immediately slid off of my seat in ecstasy. If you like below average if not wildly basic pastries and an owner who makes you confront your inner gerontophilia yet absolutely hates the sight of you and/or customers that aren’t directly related to her, than Lefkos is the place for you!
The pastries are ok but the owner is the nastiest person I ever encountered. Reading the other reviews, I just realized that they only like to serve Greeks. With so many other fine places around, unless you want to be mistreated, don’t go here!
DO NOT COME HERE! I just arrived with my mom and dad to get a cake for my brother’s birthday. My mom and I were waiting at the counter and my dad went to use the bathroom and an old, short lady with glasses made a scene in the whole cafe asking, “Where do you think you’re going?” and my dad said he was going to use the restroom, asking if he’s allowed and then she yelled that the restroom was for customers only while my mom and I were waiting at the counter ready to order. When my dad came out, she told him he was very aggressive with her when all he did was ask if he’s allowed to go. Extremely nasty and rude! Disgusting service, do not go here. Better to go somewhere else with better service and even better desserts. Desserts are subpar as well. If I could give 0 stars I would. KOLOGRIA!!!!
My husband and I live out of state so we only get to Astoria a few times a year, usually around Easter, Christmas and one or two times in the summer months. He is Greek and speaks both Greek & English. I speak English but know enough Greek words where I can get the gist of what’s going on. We used to love stopping by Lefkos to split a Bougatsa and a couple frappes. We considered this bakery to be a pillar of the Greek Astorian community. The pastries look amazing and on a good day, the ambiance is perfect…a city summerscape with a European flair. Ever since the beginning of the pandemic, we cannot say the same. We understand it’s difficult to stay afloat during a pandemic. It’s hard to enforce restrictions, to keep staff and customers happy. That does not give the owner the authority to treat her customers so poorly. The last time we visited, she had the staff wound up so tightly, about 4 of them stood stoically at the register staring myself, my husband and our friend, (also Greek) down. I don’t know what she says or does to them, but she clearly has them scared to where they’re afraid to be cheerful and actually service their customers with a kind and hospitable demeanor which is really quite a shame…number one because they are in the hospitality industry, but also because Greeks in general tend to be all about being hospitable. At the very least, they’d do a lot more business if the owner wasn’t spending so much time embarrassing and demeaning her customers. They asked if we were staying or going. We had just eaten our pastries outside at one of their tables they’d seated us at. Now we just wanted 3 frappes, (our friend was treating) for the long ride home. He ordered 3, (there were 3 of us). Owner gave him 2. She proceeded to argue with him, stating he paid for 2. He didn’t want to argue so he said he’d pay for another, but he needed 3. The owner yelled at him in front of all the customers. We left after getting the 3, but after all that, the frappes did not taste good. Fast forward to a year later…we just took a late night trip to the city…same three people. We had a nice dinner at a Greek restaurant and then stopped at Lefkos before heading home. This was the night before Easter, (not Orthodox Easter). We wanted to pick some things up for our families. We also wanted frappes. It was late…11pm. They were closing at midnight. But we were just interested in packing up some things to go. Immediately, stared down by staff again. “Eating in or out?” “Out.” “What you want?” Again, 4 less than pleasant waitresses, one nasty owner. We knew we didn’t want frappes. We’d grab those somewhere else before hitting the road. My husband had me grab a can of Caprice. We didn’t realize it until we got to the register, but they charged us $14. That’s a lot for a can of Caprice! I admittedly took a little to make my decisions. My family is picky and has health restrictions due to old age. Then, I looked at their prepackaged cookies and they didn’t look too good. Even the koulourakia looked overdone. They aren’t hard to make so I determined I’d pick up something else for my family and I’d make koulourakia before Orthodox Easter. I went to the case where my husband had ordered a couple pounds of treats. He then asked what I wanted. As I thought of what I wanted to package up, they were rushing me along in Greek asking my husband if that was all. “My wife is still deciding” he said, but they persisted. I honestly picked quickly and hastily. I didn’t really get anything I wanted because I was getting so irritated. At one point I even said, “you know what, I don’t want anything. I’ll pick up something tomorrow.” But my husband had other plans and so I continued. He went to pay and the owner hit him with a $80 bill, which he questioned in Greek. She responded very nastily and defensive to the effect of, “what? too much money for you?” No, not too much money for us, but for the level of service we received, we know now to go to Artopolis, Martha’s, any of the hundred other bakeries in the vicinity…heck! The folks over at Krispy Kreme were
Such a nasty place full of nasty people who shows an attitude at you on every point. I bought 4 little cakes from them and when my son got his cake and start eating his .By the time I got my first bite and realized that there is something wrong with the cake. The frosting was so dry and it taste so weird by then my son just rush to the restroom ;when he returned he mentioned to me that he just threw up and the cake tastes bad. So I just called the store to confirm that their cakes are not good and fresh and I need my refund. They straight refused to give the refund and instead asked me to bring the cakes back to the store to get the replacement. I told them that I don’t need any replacement because I can’t trust them with our health and they said if we got any past health conditions that’s not there fault. The woman whom I spoke over the phone was very rude. I will never ever recommend this place to anyone and I will never miss a chance to post my negative review about this place . Such a crazy place. Instead of giving attitude they can accept and apologize for there mistake and issue my refund. I will surely visit one last time to them again to leave their nasty cakes for their employees to eat and comment…
