I was in the mood for Peruvian food on my birthday, and this little gem of a restaurant did not disappoint! Everything about this place was sensational-- the food, cocktails, and service. I highly recommend this restaurant and I wish it all the success it deserves. Best birthday ever!!
The kitchen is not mastering everything on the menu. Some plates were ok…some really meh. Reduce your menu and master it. The restaurant is overwhelmed by takeout orders and you wait more than an hour to get any food which ends up being average low for a pretty stiff price. It’s a try and not come back.
Use to order here and was great every time. Ordered ceviche and came very warm, ended up giving my daughter food poisioning even thought she took a few bites. Arroz chaufa tasted old as well. Very dissapointed
I would of have this place zero stars if I could. It’s very unfortunate that I was looking forward to trying this place. Since I walked in until the time I left I got an attitude. I ordered and Lomo salteado tacu tacu, which is basically rice and fried beans. The used to much food coloring and it was beyond greasy. I asked for a plate to remove the rice and eat my friend’s fried rice. The waiter didn’t ask me what was wrong nor ask for a replacement rice. Everything was greasy and high on salt. When I ask to replace the rice I was told I cannot, even when I asked I will pay for the difference. My friend’s food was also high on salt and the meat wasn’t cooked entirely. This has been the worse service I have ever experience. I usually don’t write this view but this place definitely deserve it due to their lack of service and the unnecessary attitude.
Had a great lunch on Sunday. Chicken was great. Ceviche was fresh and delicious. The pisco sour was tart and tasty. Service was ultra sweet and friendly. They had live music as well and the vibe was excellent.
This is my second time here, decided to give it another chance and it was the last!! I am Peruvian and I’m sorry but the food is not good at all, needs more flavor and drinks have no liquor at all! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and mine is negative!! Thumbs down 1000%
I visited Kantu today with my service animal. After sitting at a table, the waitress asked me if my dog was a service animal , to which I replied to “yes.” She then proceeded to ask me for her identification card, which is illegal per the ADA. I told her this was illegal, but she proceeded to tell me I could not stay unless I provide identification. I then said okay, can I order the food to go as I had other people with me and did not want to make them go without lunch on our accord, to which she told me I would have to do so from outside the restaurant. This is very clear discrimination, and very illegal. I’m very disappointed in the actions by this restaurant and will no longer be visiting this establishment. Please learn the ADA laws before throwing people and their service animals out of your establishment. Please see below what can and cannot be legally asked per ADA and NYC.Service animals are:• allowed in restaurants and other locations that serve food per the Board of Health.• allowed to go anywhere their owner/handler goes – a store owner’s or customer’s claim that he is allergic todogs is not an acceptable reason to exclude that person and their animal from the store.Service animals are not:• pets. Do not play with or pet a service animal unless its owner has previously given you permission.• required to wear jackets or vests identifying them as such.• required to have an identification card or other documentation. You may only ask:• Is the service animal required because of a disability?• What work or task does the service animal perform? You may ask the handler to remove the service animal only when:• The service animal is out of control and the handler does not or cannot take effective action to control it.• The service animal is not housebroken.• In all circumstances, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or serviceswithout the animal present.
i just was at Kantu Peruvian. My hostess was so nice.I had the ceviche with shrimp and crab.It was very delicious. It was a very cool place.I cant wait to try out the other food.
Great food and friendly service! The skirt steak with sweet plantains and salsa sides was flavorful and grilled perfectly. I am looking forward to visiting again to try other dishes.
This is a review primarily for their takeout/delivery.First, the bad. I have ordered mostly rotisserie chicken about six times. Four of those times, the chicken has been disappointingly dry and old. You can tell the chicken was cooked hours ago and left to be warmed up because the wings are chalky and crumble with a squeeze. And those four times, the thighs are dry and have become the texture of dry chicken breast. The chicken breast is so dry and old that it has become almost mush. I love rotisserie chicken and can usually finish a whole chicken in one sitting because I am a glutton but these times I find myself throwing away half a chicken. Now for the good. The two other times I've ordered takeout/delivery, the chicken was beautiful. I don't know if it's because they have different chefs on different days but if Kantu did not send out old/dry chicken for deliveries, I would be much more impressed. I also had the antichucos several times and absolutely loved it. Their house rice is also delicious and not have had any negative experiences with it.I would recommend visiting in person but would overall not recommend ordering takeout/delivery because you risk receiving old chicken.
