· REVIEW OF FAMILY CORNER. What to make of Family Corner ,2102 31st Street? I’ve been pondering this all week. How do I grade them? I came here last weekend for breakfast. I was thinking of ordering the ‘BEC’ more commonly known as Bacon Egg and Cheese, on a roll, but because I was really hungry I ordered the breakfast burrito with egg bacon and cheese instead. What I received was not a burrito. I thought this is odd (see photo); ;this is something else? It later turned out that what I received was a breakfast wrap see photo of check. At least it was not as expensive as in other diners. Price of breakfast $14.15. I left a tip of $5. I can be generous! From the outside their entrance is rather subdued even suffering a bit of wear and tear along the awning. Inside it is a different story. Family Corner’s layout is that of a very old school diner with stools up at front of the counter. The diner is so small that you could fit it into Mini Star, and still have some seating left. Size wise eating at family corner is like eating in a railway car with a mini kitchen at the far end. Even their plastic menus are a throwback to the past, reminiscent of Howard Johnson. I had not seen those around in years. Yes the lighting has held up Steve Siderakis It was easy to read their menu without glasses! The diner itself is definitely family friendly. Many of the diners knew each other as well as the staff. While waiting out a mini rain storm I asked what was on the dessert menu? I was told nothing except for an apple pie, which had seen better days. Fine, I was only going to be there while the rain lasts I struck up a conversation with what appeared to be the owner. I mentioned how small his diner was compared to Mini Star. His response.- they are closed! He was quite friendly as was the waitress who served me. We had a further chat about the dining scene in Astoria. It appeared by the time I left there was talk of closing early!? So do I rate Family Corner?
Get their specials! Huge portions, always scrumptious and great service. Family Corner is indeed an apt name—they alway make you feel at home here.
Amazing food, good portions, affordable. I always try to grab an avocado salad when I'm in the area.
Excellent place, excellent service, excellent food, good atmosphere, excellent staff. Perfect
Family corner is a hidden gem of Astoria. We go there often for breakfast and the food is consistently amazing. Best bang for your buck.
I ordered food here for pick up. When I stopped by to pay for it the person working the register told me "how lucky you are to order food and actually get food" I asked him what he ment by that, and he said "you know sometimes you call but you don't get food." I just looked at him and smiled in a confused way because I had absolutely no clue what he was talking about. I just thought he was high or drunk. A few minutes after I drove away I remembered about 2 years ago I had placed an order but never stopped by to get it because my boss called me back to work. I'm an on-call emergency responder and crazy things happen at my job. This restaurant needs to get over it and move on. It was one order that I didn't get and it was so long ago that I couldn't even recall it. I'm a emergency responder. Should I not have responded to an emergency so that I could pick up a gyro instead? Get a life. I'll never eat here again.
A small family run dinner. The food and staff are amazing.
I’m not sure why this place is rated so high, I’m assuming it might be of favorite customers because my experience was kind of sad. I went in having high hopes thinking I was going to get delicious food but it wasn’t even eatable. I got French toast with eggs and home fries and why was the French toast not even cooked. Like it golden at the top and soggy/liquidy in the middle. I asked to have it remade but they didn’t even want to. The only thing I could have them do was put in back on the grill where it came back burnt and still soggy. I just wanted a good breakfast but I couldn’t even get that here. I regret coming here so bad.
