The place is clean, but the atmosphere is kind of awkward. The only menu options (from what I have tried) that are certainly delicious & worth the price - are the aji & yuca fritas. Even though kind of overpriced, it is nice that they do offer Peruvian candies & chocolates that are generally hard to find in NYC.I've eaten from here MANY times not by my own choosing but by that of a family member, bc if I had a choice I'd never have ordered again from here; every time the service is average or mediocre, & the chicken is dry, flavorless & slightly burnt (even for pollo a la brasa). The first time I personally ever tried to enter here was to place a to-go order, however a man very rudely shouted "No dogs! No perros!" as soon as I pulled open the door - my service dog nor I had even stepped foot inside yet. Even though my family member continues to order from here bc they personally think the chicken is fine - not great but acceptable, & loves the aji, I haven't eaten anything from here except for the yuca fritas in a month.
Very tasty Peruvian food, I had the Ají de gallina and I loved it, for appetizers we had salchipapas and fried calamari, and of course chicha morada as a drink. This is a nice place to visit
Atmosphere was quite and cozy. Food was amazing. The chicken is a must try. The staff was friendly. We got a chocolate as a first timer :)
We entered an hour before closing, and I was with a small group of picky Peruvian eaters (very critical if their cuisine not done correctly). Right off the bat my MIL responded that our waiter (and half-owner) was not Peruvian so she had her doubts. The food definitely put her doubts to rest. Our waiter was very patient with our group. We ordered empanadas, tamales, and a large Jalea. The empanadas and the Jalea were perfect. The tamales were not quite there for me. Perhaps I'm more used to Mexican style of cooking them, but I've had better. Plenty of food with some leftover for 3 people. The restaurant is midsized but I think the back half was used as a sushi place or was just closed. The only real negative being there was no alcohol available, so no cocktail, sangria or wine. I recommend this place if you're looking for good tasting food in good portions.
I ate here in between jobs and the food was delicious. The woman behind the counter made very yummy suggestions. I got a chicken wrap, salad, and 2 desserts. The atmosphere inside was beautiful. I walked in and the people who owned the place were teaching a toddler how to play chess lol. I loved looking at the plants and decorations.I already added it to one of my favorites for whenever I'm in the area working again.??Thank you
NEVER AGAIN ! I came in at 5:30 and ordered 3 dishes, I was told 30 minutes. That’s a long time for pickup but understandable since there were other people. But then, the people that came in after us got their food 20 minutes before us !!! When we ordered 10 minutes before them and ordered smaller and simpler meals, they got big seafood plate and an entire rotisserie chicken. I ordered 2 pollo salados, which is fries chicken and rice, i don’t understand why it took so long for something so simple and other people are getting gourmet meals in 15 minutes. I waited 45+ minutes sitting there waiting for a mediocre meal that was made with two different types of fries, obviously frozen ! I will add images. Not only did I come in at 5:30 and got my food at 6:20. The staff were not kind at all. I could barely communicate with the waitress. Once your a regular they think they can take advantage, and take a ridiculous amount of time and don’t even bother to use basic customer service skills. No compensation for the terrible experience . Everything is also so dirty ! Instead of trying to be understanding, the waiter instead proceeded to tell me there’s nothing he can do, maybe compensation for wasting my time??? Should’ve canceled the order when it came out. Never going back again to pay ridiculous prices for frozen old food. 40$ for this, and then they wanna charge extra for a little bit of sauce with an attitude and no regard for the experience I just had.
Food was so tasty. Wife husband team killing it! The desert was worth its own trip!
Amar Peruvian Kitchen is a real gem in the making. Maybe a nick nack to pick up; but a diamond protruding in the rough. This Chef crafted an authentic and exquisite salmon plate that belonged on 5th Avenue competing with Jean Georges, or any renowned top chef. The value comes from the treatment of produce, really crisp fresh vegetables; the understanding of exact ratios of veggies, protein and a light sauce which doesn’t overwhelm or dominate the other flavors. I have worked in hospitality for 14 years, And I’m wowed and eager to come back to familiarize myself with the rest of the menu. To host work events, or big family dinners. If you have not tried Chicha Morada, Amar makes a perfect example of this spiced Pineapple and Corn beverage which is reminiscent of mulled wine, but non alcoholic. I’m rarely impressed, but these guys hit it out of the park. Staff is friendly attentive and on top of their cues. Do not miss this place. A cooking phenomenon, a purist retreat. A quality lovers must. Sincerely, Jonah
Food was very good. They got the best green sauce in the world. Just a heads up theres no bar but they say you can byob of wine or beer.
I'm giving this a 3 stars because there was nothing Peruvian about this restaurant. One try is enough. I ordered the Chaufa Mariscos (seafood fried rice), sweet plantains and french fries. The food sadly lacked flavor and was heavy on the salt. For the hefty price it was absolutely not worth the drive. The only thing I enjoyed was the sweet plantains. The rice had clam shells all in it. I was crunching on God knows what. I trust my taste buds and if this simple dish lacked flavor, I will not bother with anything else. The green hot sauce is my fave and even that was not tasty. I'd honestly prefer to drive to Linden, NJ to Stancia restaurant for my Peruvian food fix. But this spot is a two thumbs down.
