Stopped into this Classic Poughkeepsie eatery and bar and I was pleasantly surprised that it was a lot of fun. Rea (sp?) was an excellent bartender/waitress with a great personality and very attentive. There was a good happy hour going on with decent bar crowd. I heard that they have a DJ and entertainment on weekends but that’s not my thing. We ordered California chicken sandwiches and they were fresh and delicious. Not your typical fried pub food on the menu. I will definitely be back. This place has been around for decades and has stood the rest of time!!
My salad was fresh, my guests’s pasta was piping hot and tasty. An acoustic trio started at 6:30 and were delightful on a Friday night!
Wings were great, but I got violent food poisoning from the carrots and celery.Update- I called “The Derby,” the person responding to my review attacking me for not calling them first, was not there. I have been violently ill since I left there 30 hours ago and have barely left the bathroom. I should have called the restaurant in the midst of my sickness like the responder would have wanted. However, even though I am still ill today and called, they are not there. Wish I could have done better as a reviewer and patron.
Never got the chance to order I kept getting hung up on. I don't blame them but I wish they didn't say call to order on their website and if their was a way to order for pickup through an app or website. All they have is doordash who rips them, me and the driver off. Probably a good place ?
Server took a while to get orders, and drinks. If you’re looking for a welcoming bar to drink go here. But food and service needs work. Lovely atmosphere.

Fantastic place to eat and to hang out. The family atmosphere is all consuming and you immediately feel at home when you arrive. The bartenders are attentive, extremely attractive, and highly entertaining. Dare I say, the best in the business?!? Yes. Yes I do. The various Dj’s are extremely talented but Way Back Wednesday nights with DJ Wisdom is my favorite because of the music and the bartenders. I have to say the bouncers are really awesome too. So yes, I highly recommend the Derby and hope you enjoy it as much as me and my friends do!
